Has any body played this? I picked it up after watching a free streamers for an hour or two, and it's absolutely fantastic.

It's a rogue-like card-based dungeon crawler. Sounds shoddy, but it plays brilliantly. You start as a character with a basic deck, then choose a route on the map to take. You then battle in a turn based style, and can either attack, block, or use a card skill.

There are multiple paths to take, and relics to find that impact your play. Then there are huge boss fights to end the level.

"We fused card games and roguelikes together to make the best single player deckbuilder we could. Craft a unique deck, encounter bizarre creatures, discover relics of immense power, and Slay the Spire!"

There's videos and stuff on their Steam Page, but I'm really enjoying it.

So no one is playing this?
It's consistently in the Steam Top 10 list.

The decks are too limited at the moment, not enough variety to keep me entertained for long. I hope they add another character soon.

I will get it at some point, especially as it's got some Netrunner players behind it, but I've got a bit much on the plate atm.

I've played a nice bit, it's quite good, I'm too shit for Ascension mode yet though.

@Razz I've only really got stuck in to Ironclad, but I've found a couple of ways to build your deck. You can go strength / Demon Form based, a Barricade style block deck, and even an exhaust deck, but those are ridiculously hard for me at the moment.

New character is being worked on as we speak, and should be dropped in two or three weekly updates time.

@TheMayorOfJugs I'm about 80 hours in, just on Ironclad (trying to winstreak higher than my record of 7), and I'm still absolutely shit. I'm on a 5 losing streak at the moment and have yet to touch Ascension hah.

@Ceelion I has to be a mage right? Or in this case, a primary power card user. They already have the warrior and rogue.

@Razz Unless a new card type is introduced? I get what you're saying since Ironclad is the Attack user and Silent is the Skill user, but maybe this character could be anything! Doubled relic effects and awful HP! Shitloads of energy and bad card draw!

One thing is certain; I will still be shit with them.

So I bought this in the recent Steam sale, for about 7-8 IIRC, as it was hanging around the top sellers with a pretty high positive review score. Did a quick run through last night before bed. Seems pretty good. Not sure how much longevity it'll have at the moment though.

@TheMayorOfJugs hmmmm... a new card type; that would be cool. But I doubt they'd want to over complicate the decks with new card types, however it might be a way to inject some more life into the game further down the line.

It will be difficult to get a kind of all purpose mage character correct in StS, maybe they'll specialise a little. I.e. a necromancer/summoner might be interesting as there are already bosses in the game that summon minions. I'd love to have an army of skeletons throwing bones around.

There are some rumours floating around that it will be a gunslinger, instead of the obvious choice of a mage
. Might prove to be a really cool choice if true.

Razz nailed it with the primary power card user call. This guy is a beast if you take the right cards. He's almost definitely going to get a bit nerfed so enjoy it while you can.

Yeah, I've had some crazy runs. Envoked a 100 energy Tempest the other day. Ice cream, meteor strike, impulse, echo form. Crazy cards. I've been watching a few tubers play too, Rhapsody is currently my favourite to watch. But Jrm1ah, is technically better but boring to watch.

I picked this up in the recent Humble sale and have really been enjoying it. Still not quite got the hang of deck building yet. I've managed to work out a strategy for Ironclad and the Silent but it took several goes to get the right combination of cards for it to work (but once it did start working it was a joy). So far I have one win (plus many losses) with each character (although I'm not entirely sure how I managed the Defect run).

    Highly recommended.

Just got this, it's pretty cool.

Had my first run, both the Boss and I were down to 1HP each (!), so I played my final attack card and killed it, but the Boss has Spiked Shell and did me for 3HP whenever I hit it, so we simultaneously died and it didn't count as a victory! So now I have the dubious stat of Total Bosses Slain: 1, Total Deaths: 1...

Ahh, I understand now... Victory is beyond a single level :)

Second run and I got to the 3rd level. It's bloody great. Love the Anger card combined with Strength buffs... you can whip out 20+ damage in a card for free. Awesome.

Woop! First victory on my fifth run \o/

Went for a Poison-Block build with The Silent. Poison is sooo powerful. Got some very good relics on this run too.

It's just poison build. You can't have a poison build without loads of block.

I love when a poison build comes to together, snecko skull, the specimen, noxious, bouncing flask, burst and catalyst.

A shiv deck with envemon can be fun too, but you need snecko skull to make it work.

Currently trying to work through Ironclad Ascension. It's weird having to take block cards, usually I never take any and remove all of the starting defense cards. A turn blocking with the ironclad is a wasted turn to me.

How does not blocking work? Strength upgrades? Or are you using Iron Wave?

Mostly a thin deck with cards like double tap, whirlwind, heavy blade, jaxx, limit break, offering. You need relics like vajra, bag marbles, necronomicon etc.

Basically you build a high strength build that can usually end normal fights in two turns.

I usually get block through relics like anchor, orichalcum, self forming clay and the powers metalicize or rage. Always take Apparition.

@Razz thanks. Most of my Ironclad wins so far have involved Barricade, Body Slam and lots of block. Always good to learn new strategies that can be adapted to what's available in the run.
