@Khanivor yes but just continue playing through the game for now until you beat a run.

Heart run with Silent completed. Finally. Just the Defect to go now.

Until we get the Watcher on the Switch of course.

Worked a treat. Lots of shivs, bonus dex for every three attacks played in a turn (and a footwork+), double caltrops and double noxious fumes. Not to mention other poison cards and a well timed catalyst+. Close call in the end but before that Donu and Deca were a breeze.

Beaten it with Ironclad and Defect.

    Heart run? Act IV?

Is documentation too much to ask for games these days?

@Khanivor beat it with the silent and it will make a bit more sense.

Must have started at least 30 runs with Ironclad. Still haven't got past Act 3. Fuck this game I'm so addicted but it treats me baaaad.

Bah, I just canít quite find what it is you guys love about this. Iíve played it a fair bit, 3 wins between ironclad and defect and a couple of defeats on the act 3 boss with the silent. Just canít help rushing it towards the end when youíve got loads of cards and relics, when I should be stopping to think more. Frustrating.

Ok, so, just read the reddit post linked by Frog for the first time and tried putting it into practice... and finally broke past ascension 9 on the Ironclad, which I'd been brickwalled on for ages.

@Khanivor you will have seen ascension 1 already then

Also if you have beaten it you would have seen the heart no?

@Rogueywon yeah it helped me loads as well, realigned my act 1 and it's made such a difference for me.

The heart is the boss of Act 4. And that only unlocks when you've beaten the game with all the classes.

Ascension is just higher difficulty levels that unlock when you beat the game. There's up to 20 of them, each adding an extra (negative) modifier to the run. Like you start with less health, the enemies hit harder, that sort of thing.

And to fight the heart, you need to collect three fragments.

One involves fighting the elite with a swirly-effect around it on the map. This one's easy as it doesn't involve giving anything up (other than your choice of routes, but you can do this in any act).

The second involves choosing to recollect at a camp-site. This involves giving up the option of resting or forging at one campsite. I prefer to get it done in act 1.

The third involves giving up the treasure from a chest. For this one, just wait until you get a chest with one of the more "meh" relics.

If you have all three fragments when you beat the act 3 boss, act 4 will unlock.

Right. Cheers Roguey. Now I understand. Appreciate that

Last thing; is there a mode that keeps going till you die?

@Khanivor No. There are only four acts (though mods support more these days).

The equivalent of "endless mode" is trying to see how far into ascension you can push.

I unlocked ascension 10 on the Ironclad tonight. That took some doing...

There is an endless mode, though I don't know if it's specific to a particular version of the game or not.

It's better to save getting the fragments (except maybe the elite one) until later in the run, because they require you to sacrifice a relic (or rest/upgrade) that you may need to survive.

@Mola_Ram But I often find I hit the first campsite in Act 1 in reasonable shape. By contrast, I'm much more likely to get smacked around by the early trash mob fights and to need a rest in Acts 2 and 3.

As for the chest one, just take it when you get a rubbish relic.

@Rogueywon well yeah, if you're at a campfire, don't need to rest and don't have anything you want to upgrade, then you might as well get the thing.

But unless a relic is actively hurting me I'll usually take it over a fragment, at least early on. Fragments don't do anything at all until the end of Act 3, while even mediocre relics will help for a lot longer than that.

I'm up to A3 on all 3 characters on Switch now. Ironclad A3 is destroying me so far though, not made it to the act 2 boss yet.

I think I'm at Ironclad and Silent 6, Defect 8 and watcher 7 at the moment. Have had hands on the lower ones that would have smashed the levels I'm at right now though. I'm not good enough to turn anything into a winning run yet though. Some dude got 7 heart kills in a row at ascension 20 whilst cycling through characters the other day. That's just mind blowing to me.

Having an un-removable curse in your deck from the start on a10 as Ironclad has me playing around a lot more with curse heavy builds. Stack a bunch of cards that give curses when used, along with a couple of that power (whose name I forget) that does 5 damage (10 upgraded) to all enemies whenever you draw a curse and you can do some mad damage without the need to chase strength boosts.

I don't bother with Curse things unless I have a Blue Candle, or some other way to get rid of them. Sure there are some things that make them strong (that Ironclad card is called Fire Breathing, btw), but Curses often do bad things and - even if they're relatively benign - bloat out your deck. Doesn't seem worth it to me, though it's still fun to try wacky combos.

Anyway, I'm on a bit of a break from this, but will probably get back into it once the new patch gets a Switch release.

The curse that makes you lose 1 health for each card you play is godly with rupture.
