Registered 15 years agoHah! And ascension 10 down as the Ironclad. Weirdly, far more players have that achievement than have the heart-kill ones, going off Steam stats. -

This went quite nicely. Runic Pyramid was pretty ridiculous with this deck. Would have cut down a bit more and lost the inflame and most of the card draw if I hadn't taken the relic that stops me earning money as runic pyrmaid and violence kind of make those cards redundant.

Fewer people have the achievements, for sure. But I found getting heart kills easier than getting to ascension 10.
They’re harder though aren’t they?
Edit: Plus, it gets you the "true end" screen for each character.

Registered 9 years agoThey're not mutually exclusive. Even if you die against the heart, you still go up an Ascension level (assuming that you're playing on the highest one you've unlocked). It's just a bit of extra content after Act 3, and there's no real reason not to go for it every time. -

Registered 9 years agoI guess so? But getting the shards has never felt all that arduous to me. I usually get them in act 3, and my run is usually pretty cemented into success or failure by then. It's never felt like I would have won or lost just by choosing whether or not to pick them up. -

I shall try this approach - I tend to try and get the shards as quickly as possible, so that they're out of the way for the harder later sections.

Registered 16 years agoAwesome run with the Defect last night. Beat the Heart with ease, but the Time Eater prior to that had given me a real scare. Savaged my health early-doors when I hadn’t had the chance to establish myself with echo form, capacitor, defrags & glacier. Still, recovered and was generating close to 100 block some turns. Some lightning, but working dark orbs through did the real damage. -

Yeah, the problem with getting shards early is that early upgrades and relics are usually more impactful on your run than ones you get in the middle of Act 3, because you have more floors in which they're giving you a benefit. So, unless a relic is absolute rubbish (say, one of the bottles when you don't have a card that you want to be innate), I'll be taking it over a shard in Act 1. Same goes for the one that replaces an upgrade.

The super elite you can do whenever you feel ready, though. If you're strong enough to kill the regular version, you'll probably be strong enough to kill the enhanced one. The difference isn't that huge in my experience (currently on Ascension 12). -

Registered 18 years agoFinally managed a run and beat the level 3 boss with Silent. Think I only managed it because it was the Awakened one. He seemed a lot easier than the Time Eater, who has resolutely smashed me several times now.
Time to start learning the Defect! -

Registered 13 years agoManaged my first act 3 victory with ironclad, Act 3 boss was the Awakened One. I got a nice wee block-centric deck going with flame barriers, metallicize, shrug it off, and Barricade (awesome) etc. coupled with two upgraded Body Slams and battle trance to keep the draw going so I was frequently dealing 50+ damage through act 2 and 3. Last mystery floor on act 3 was the card goblin, and I managed to luck into getting an Entrench (doubles your block). Up against the boss and I had 350 block coupled with 0 cost body slams, ridiculous!
Anyway, I'll try a run with the silent later on I reckon and see how I fare.

Registered 14 years agoAscension 3 done on the Silent. Got a +energy relic from swapping my starting relic and another at the end of act 2, took a snecko eye on act 1 and laughed my way to victory.

Registered 9 years agoHad an ironclad run on a6 that I wasnt massively enamoured with through act 1 and act 2. Then a couple of card/relics turned up and it turned into a death machine. Didnt expect to beat the awakened one but I totally nuked him.
It's such a pleasant surprise when that happens. -

Registered 13 years agoI now have a win on each of the 3 main characters. Still have some cards to unlock though. Should I move up to Ascension 1, or carry on at the normal difficulty until I have unlocked everything? -

Registered 16 years agoAscension 4 complete on Ironclad... Very much a strength build, then heavy blade (with the Necronomicon) wiped out the Awakened One’s second form in a single play. Glorious. -

Registered 17 years agoManaged to reach the Heart again - this time with the Defect. Unfortunately it beat me, despite having a great run up until that point. On the plus side I did beat the Time Eater for the first time and unlock the next ascension level, so not too bad. -

Registered 17 years agoHoly damn - this is so good! I had dismissed this as a "yet another mediocre card shuffler" but this is really nicely done.
Got it beaten the first time. Gotta do more.
Anyone having bugs with Switch? Every now and then my cards get "stuck" so that I cannot play them without any reason. Seems to happen when I get many status cards. Sometimes I have managed to get it working by saving and continuing. -

Registered 17 years agoI'm not on the Switch, but occasionally I can't play a card and it's either I've accidently moved up to select the character, or by pressing back I get put back to the cards. -

I have tried everything and it doesn't seem to be that. I can even highlight the card and it puts it a bit towards the enemies, but I just cannot select it. I can end the turn anyway (without spending my action points) and typically the issue continues.
