I always go for it, because I enjoy the challenge of balancing the adding of cards for fights coming up in the short term, versus the looming question of "will this deck beat the heart?" Sometimes I get the balance right, sometimes I don't, sometimes I get lucky and sometimes even a good deck gets unlucky. That's part of the magic of roguelikes for me. Totally understand if people don't want that from the game, but yeah... I always try to kill the heart. |

Registered 14 years agoI don't really find there's much of the balancing act with the heart, if I want to go for the heart I just decide at the start of Act 3 because by that point I should have basically completed my deck anyway. -

Registered 16 years agoDon’t get me wrong - I’ll still go for the heart and have beaten it with all 3 characters (can’t wait for the Watcher!), but until I get to A20, the first time I pass each rank it will probably be over 3 acts.
So far - A8 Ironclad, A2 Silent, A3 Defect.
Occasionally I’ll drop to A1 for the lols. And to keep a decent W/L ratio naturally

Registered 17 years agoFinally the Heart is dead! I thought I was a goner when it took my Defect's health down to 13 in the second hit, but some timely orb boosts put me on enough frost to survive everything else it thew at me. -

Registered 9 years agoLol, just started on the switch after the update, smashed a Defect run, killed the heart and everything, and thought "wow, this is a lot easier than I remember it being!"
Turned out I didn't have the "do ascension" box checked. -

Registered 17 years agoOld news for PC players, but playing Watcher feels wildly different, which is impressive.
Only had a couple of (unsuccessful) runs with her so far, already strikes me that she has the potential to be massively OP whilst also as fragile as gossamer if the cards don’t fall right. Love it!

Registered 15 years agoMade it to A20 as the Defect last night. Double Act 3 boss, on top of all the other penalties. Bloody hell... -

Registered 15 years agoGot A20 down as the Defect (no heart kill, obviously). Bloody hell that was hard. RNJesus smiled on me when it came to the Act 3 bosses and I squeaked through with 3 health left. -

Registered 17 years agoWow, this game is still going? A lot of my old StS friends are playing Monster Train now, also a deck building rougelike, but the similarities end there. Very different mechanics, it's honestly more a tower defense game. -

Registered 15 years agoYou only need an ascension 0 chapter 3 win to see the credits, don't you? That's not hard.
But that's really just where the actual game begins. -

Registered 9 years agoYeah I'd absolutely smash non-ascension runs these days. I (accidentally) went back and did one recently, and it was barely a challenge at all. Which is not to say that I'm super great at the game or anything, but it really is amazing how much your game improves through necessity from level to level. -

Registered 13 years ago@Murbs I’ve been searching daily and it didn’t show up today for me either. I saw the announcement via the Guerilla (sp?) Games event and for some reason it does appear in the ‘new games we’re playing now’ section on the store but hopefully you’ve got it now if you were after it!

Registered 16 years agoIt's perfect on ios. Brilliant version of the best game ever. Victory over the awakened one with my third go on the ironclad. Lots of strength alongside the necronomicon and two upgraded heavy blows made short work of anything and everything. -

Registered 13 years agoReally struggling to get anything productive done now, having it on phones shouldn’t be allowed.
Only downside so far is (unless it’s just me) there’s no syncing between iPhone and iPad. Other than that, as others have said, it’s perfect and well suited to mobiles - hope Android users don’t have to wait too long. -

Registered 15 years agoSeem to be blocked hard at A18 on the Ironclad. There are just so few viable builds on this character. On Silent and Defect, there were still 2-3 viable directions to take a deck at the very high ascension ranks. On Ironclad, if I don't get some way of raising my strength early, along with an upgraded Limit Break, I seem to be screwed. Chapter 2 is absolute hell. -
@Rogueywon surely there are at least 3 viable builds? Strength, block, and discard?
Block and particularly discard are a bit more riskly, a bit hit & miss. You need the luck of the draw. But when they work, my word, they can be lethal.
Which is what you need for higher Ascension levels. They're hard as fuck, you're going to fail, so you can really benefit from a high risk high reward build.
