Registered 16 years agoI saw Leftfield in 1996 and I genuinely was concerned my hearing would never recover. The bass actually made you feel sick to the point that you could feel your lunch moving around in your stomach.
The only thing that's ever come close was the prodigy and even then, it didn't feel like they were affecting the structural integrity of the venue. -

Not any more, not since the therapy. -
Motorhead are definitely THAT band for me. "Louder Than Everything Else" was not a fucking joke. Saw them live three times, took earplugs the second and third times because it was literally weeks before I felt my hearing had recovered enough after the first. -

Registered 14 years agoThere are deaf discos where they won't let you in if you're not profoundly deaf, because they crank up the bass to ungodly levels so you can feel it in your guts. -

That's just ridiculous. I mean who even still uses the term 'discos'?

Motorhead were amazing, but Manowar in 2008 were the worst for me. 139db apparently.

Registered 15 years agoJesus And Mary Chain waaaaay back for me. It went beyond music and into angle grinder territory for me.
Recently passed my test and borrowed my dad’s car and drove a couple of friends. Couldn’t hear a thing afterwards. Driving back on the motorway, about 80, I could hear a faint high pitched squeal, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. But couldn’t work out where from for ages... until I realised I’d forgotten to change up and had been in third gear for about 10 miles. -

Motorhead. Newcastle City Hall. 17 years old. Couldn't hear anything at school the next day. And we were on the balcony. At the back.

Mind, DJ Shadow at Glastonbury this year had the most ridiculous bass. Smacked you in the chest. -

One of the dumber things I did was putting my ear up against a speaker for much of a set. No fucking idea who or when or where but I do remember the ringing

Registered 6 years agoLoudest three for me Motörhead, My Bloody Valentine and SunnO))) but with SunnO))) and MBV it was so constant it became a feeling you could almost tune out and adapt to. Motörhead were a total assault the second time I saw them. Felt weak afterwards. -
Although it was fucking brilliant coming of age in the 90s what with all the music I do wish ridiculous volume hadn’t been such a hallmark. Be nice to not have hearing problems at 43.
