I was born without a penis so whenever I go and visit prostitutes they have to provide me with a dick interpreter that fucks the whore for me and tells me what it feels like. The state pays for this because we take care of our people here in Belgium.

Plus where do you draw the line? Does every pub band now have to have a signer for fear of legal action?
The woman's own lawyer was on Five Live this morning and said that wouldn't be reasonable as the cost would wipe out the money a pub band would be making.
Perhaps they could be expected to provide printed lyrics, I dunno..

Learning 3 band's worth of songs, including 2 at very short notice, sounds pretty taxing to me. XD ;) :p lol etc.

    Re art galleries:

    https://www.nationalgallery.org.uk/visiting/audio-tours/audio-tour-for-blind-and-partially-sighted-visitors

They only describe 23 of the hundreds of paintings on show. Sounds like they are only getting a fraction of the experience people who can see are getting.

Even the National Gallery itself talks about the fact thirty of the paintings are 'must see':

It's an absolute disgrace that they didn't have someone trained and ready to go on the off chance that someone gave a shit about having the lyrics signed for the warm up act at a Little Mix concert. I wept when I read the story this morning. When will the injustice in this world end?

She should just be glad that her daughter had a good time. How many parents were huddled at the back of the arena wishing they couldn't hear?

To me it's a bit like going to an opera and complaining that it's in Italian and you don't understand. Just enjoy the spectacle you entitled fuck.

I used to work for a company that made things for deaf people, and some of them can be very, very political about deaf issues. To the point of extremism.

Pour example, deaf parents not letting their deaf kids learn written English, just BSL, as they wanted their kids to be deaf first, English second. Like an incredibly tiny little country within a country, a minority instead of a disability. I understand (sort of) the empowerment behind this but the disadvantage this causes to the kids was just fucking insane to me.

So you'd get emails/minicoms off them that were nearly unintelligible, because they never used written English. Also, if you weren't good/fast enough at signing, they'd just ignore you, like a Frenchman who's decided your French is too shit to bother with. Literally, turn their back on you.

I'll be catching fire, gasoline when I do it
Just cause you're packin', packin', whoop, down south
That don't mean I'm ever gonna take it laying down"

Who needs a support act when this is clearly the piece de resistance

Not sure about the fire and machinery euphemisms, sounds kind of painful. I would like to see what BSL for "packing down south" is though. I might need it one day.

Who said anything about it being at sort notice? It's not unreasonable to expect them to have an interpreter prepared in advance.

Yes it is. Considering this is the first I'm hearing of anything like this, how many interpreters do you expect to be paid a good sum learning all the songs performed by every band in every concert across the country to ultimately end up doing nothing on the night? And at what point do you say, well, nobody's asked for an interpreter ever, why are we wasting our money?

    Mainly because it's idiotic.

I think it's only fair in this progressive & enlightened age to have Little Mix perform a 90 minute set for this woman, using nothing but sign language.

Seems like the right thing to do goddammit

No it isn't unreasonable, and plenty of events, shows and concerts already offer the service.

Besides you're all just making the same argument people were making when they were introducing the law that saw all publicly accessible buildings require disabled access ramps. Didn't fly then either.

Ad-hoc interpreters are exactly like permanent slabs of metal, you are so right there.

How much do disabled access ramps charge per event?

Access ramps discriminate against people who have been told by their doctors to climb more flights of stairs.

Being able to access a building is an absolute basic need. Having music interpreted is not.

Having a company make sure you are suitably entertained to your liking is not a right.

It's still about access for disabled people, and falls under the same act. It is also not about "basic needs".

Again, this is a service already provided at other gigs, concerts and shows.
