How has no one mentioned Cliff Hanger.
    Or Road House?

Lot of time for Predator but I’ll go for the aforementioned Point Break.

Yeah I guess they're not, on reflection. Think I'm just picturing the memorable (violent) bits.

(Hateful 8 is a great film!)

Not a massive action film fan tbh. To me they mostly feel like stereotypical bland Hollywood filler (no offence if anyone disagrees, be assured I have terrible taste.....).

Arnie made them good though, by just being a colossus and delivering such a good cheesy one liner.

It's not the best by a long shot by I have a massive soft spot for Van Damn's AWOL (or Lionheart).

    "The whole bet's on Attila!"
    "Wrong bet..."
    "LIOOOOOONHEAAAAAAAART!"

I have a soft spot for Striking Distance. A cheesy 90s Bruce Willis film, made on the back of Die Hard presumably. Its pretty terrible but I love it.

Road House is great. Watched it a few months back as Mrs Hermit had never seen it, and it keeps getting referenced in stuff. It's still awesome.

Ha is that the boat one? That's a strange one to have a soft spot for. It's no Hudson Hawk.

Features an obscenely hot Sarah Jessica Parker before her nose to face ratio went tits up.

    Did anyone say Robocop yet?
  • Deleted user 2 February 2018 15:42:35
I'd say it's mood dependent and there are far too many to choose from, although surely any list has surely got to include Die Hard, Robocop, Raiders of the Lost Ark and Terminator 2.

Sarah Jessica Parker was at her hottest as a witch in Hocus Pocus

    I'd stir her cauldron anyday

Predator, Jurassic Park, or The Matrix.

Predator is a simple, neat concept with perfect execution.

Jurassic Park is a fantastic concept with pioneering special effects that still hold up well today.

The Matrix, again, had pioneering special effects but I personally liked the fight sequences that aren't over-edited and don't cut away... you get to see the fight sequences in an unflinching way, something a lot of action films don't seem to do.

What kind of action? Doesn't really exist as a category on its own. You've got sci-fi action (Clearly Aliens, you muppets), crime action (CLEARLY Die Hard), comedy (no idea. The Mask? Idk). Etc.

Also, Tarantino lacks a fucking watch to do action movies, seeing as it takes 3 hours of exploratory exposition and pop culture references to get to anything resembling.

Midnight Run could probably be classed as comedy action

I was just going to post this. Also I genuinely love Hudson Hawk but to this day I have no idea what's actually going on.

I hope someone has said Total Recall.

Otherwise they better have said Terminator 2.

I know Die Hard is a better film but I still ended up watching Commando when both were on at the same time once.

Struggling to think of anything recent that comes close to the classics of the 80s. Die Hard, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Aliens - all perfect entertainment IMO.

Has anything as good been released within the past 10 years?
