It's Predator for me too but alongside Robocop (although some might argue that is a sci-fi movie)

I remember getting them both on vhs from the rental van at the same time. What a great day

    T2.

    Or Russian Terminator.

Seriously. You've never seen anything like it.

@retro74 I think the satire in Robocop pushes into the sci-fi category, and the action isnt actually that spectacular. Although the ED-209 scene is brilliant.

Ip Man is probably my favourite martial arts movie.

    Donnie fuckin' Yen, ultimate baddass.

    Hard Boiled/Predator/Die Hard.

Are we classing 'martial arts' as a separate genre? If not, I'll probably have to pick an eighties/early nineties Jackie Chan movie.

Or The Raid (I think the sequel has better action scenes, but to have made the first on $1m is insane).

As a whole film RoboCop, easily. Just for the action... I'm going to say Terminator 2.

    Honourable mention for Dredd.

    Mad Max: Fury Road

But that's cheating. The second best is Con Air

Made me smile as I realised I'd forgotten this when I read "Raid".

Spent an entire weekend just rewatching Dredd when I first got the blu ray.

Should be sued under Trade Descriptions as it has a distinct lack of action.

Dredd is probably the best recent action film for me.

The Raid gets my vote. Better than any action film Hollywood have put out in the last decade.

Not really an action film. So change your vote to Predator.
    Pah.

    Says "action" right here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0067116/

The Onion AV Club did a series on the 'most important' action movies from each year (starting in 1968): https://www.avclub.com/c/a-history-of-violence

Don't agree with every choice but it's a good read.

Are we to conclude that live action/non CGI films make the best action movies?

Glad no-one's mentioned Enter the Dragon. Saw it the other night, its properly shit.

@DMJ Enjoyed reading those each fortnight. Think a superhero list is next. The guy clearly watches loads of shit so we don't have to.
