Filming has started in Toronto and the films synopsis has been released,

We all have a superhero inside us, it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In Billy Batson’s (Angel) case, by shouting out one word—SHAZAM!—this streetwise 14-year-old foster kid can turn into the adult Super Hero Shazam (Levi), courtesy of an ancient wizard.
Still a kid at heart—inside a ripped, godlike body—Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them! Can he fly? Does he have X-ray vision? Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? Can he skip his social studies test? Shazam sets out to test the limits of his abilities with the joyful recklessness of a child. But he’ll need to master these powers quickly in order to fight the deadly forces of evil controlled by Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Strong).

Dwayne Johnson is also set to appear as Black Adam

Honestly I always thought Captain Marvel or Shazam was a bit of a shit character. I can't see this doing well. I'm guessing it doesn't link to the DCEU then, which is probably in its favour.

I think if they do a nice family film, like Big but with a superhero instead of Tom Hanks, it might do alright. That'd also completely avoid tonal issues as it'd be a largely fun and friendly affair

The director has been quite open on social media, and a fun film seems to be what he's aiming for. It really depends on how much WB execs put their grubby hands all over it. If they just let them make the film they want to make, it might actually be decent.

Zachary Levi is not who I imagined as Shazam. Billy Batson maybe. Odd choice. As is the one to make a movie about this character. Wasn't his peak in the '40s?

Hoping it doesn't, loved Levi in Chuck, but if it bombs, you can't say it wasn't coming.

Rumour is the kid who "interviewed" Superman at the Start of JL was Billy Batson or that's what they will claim just to try and give that scene a point.

Hes one of the more interesting DC characters, in that it's a child in a gods body. It's just a shame that, like most DC stuff, the name sucks and the costume is stupid.

I've already got goosebumps just thinking about the first time the little boy shouts the magic word SHAZAM and turns into a wizard. What a moment that will be.

Going to be like WW and the upcoming Aquaman and Reeves Batman series. Set in the DCU but not tied down by the other films.

Don't know about that. He's down as the villain for Suicide Squad 2 but I'm not sure about this. Mark Strong has been cast in the role of Super-Villain Dr. Thaddeus Sivana

So should we just call it Panther instead of black? Apparently Dwayne has bagged producer rights on this and yes is also scheduled for SS2 which is odd as they said they wanted to get away from magical bad guys and have a more grounded film this time around.
