X-men is marvel no? That's pretty stupid. I mean, look at them! Fantastic four, too. Same thing.
I remain to be convinced that you can hold up one group of spandex clad lunatics with magic powers and stupid names over another in aggregate and make a sound argument either way. -

Do you not feel cyborg is a amazing character now you know he's a 30yr old high schooler who doesn't get enough time with his dad and that makes him sad?

Yeah, most of it does stem from the source and one of the reasons I’ve always been marvel over DC.
But I think Decks' on the money that they are generally a more likeable bunch of people, whereas DCU gang are wooden and boring as characters. I think that does paper over a lot of the cracks.
DC is overly serious and stupid. The characters all have stupid names, stupid powers, stupid costumes and do stupid things.

Hey, you should embrace the stupid. It's all good silly fun, and I've not *hated* any of them.
It's the people who invest hours of their life arguing over the minutiae of the details of this stuff in an effort to make it look like some kind of great work of literature that need their head checked (looking at you, user Derblington). -

At a very basic level, it’s all pretty dumb but marvel, on the whole is more relatably dumb. Xmen has got that whole civil rights thing going on, spider man is just a guy and the punisher is Batman but everyone acknowledges how insane he is.

It’s that vague attempt to make their comics relatable that help the movies to be so much better. -

It’s the suit from JL, it was always intended to be that Superman. It has illustrations of WW and flash in the end credits too.
It could be any superman, they don’t show his face. You could say that new superman show is DCEU by that logic.
Not fitting the tone is true, but that’s a different issue. Snyder’s dark and gruff universe is massively limiting. MCU is like Fortnite - the style they’ve built will work for all subjects in all genres. It’ll never go full on horror or anything but they can make it work to the degree that it will sell as coherent on-screen with whatever they throw at it. -

If we aren't arguing over pointless details that serve no other purpose than to inflate our sense of knowledge to an anonymous audience then we might as well destroy the internet. -

I’m not claiming they’re masterpieces, just that for the most part their internal logic is present and correct and explained within the material. There are plenty of plot holes in the MCU and there will be more and more over time due the expanding nature of the material.
The DCEU is just mostly shit. Not due to being a different group of spandex-clad models doing imaginary shit, but because they simply aren’t made or told as well for a bunch of reasons.

Registered 10 years agoI've seen maybe half the Marvels. I'd say only Iron Man 1, Homecoming and Thor 3 are ones I'd legit rewatch.
Ant Man is better than the kicking it gets and part of that is because it just leans into the nonsense with the boss fight.
Best I have managed of the DC is getting through Wonder Woman and half hour of Man of Steel.
But we can all agree Deadpool is the best one.

Registered 5 years agoI’m a huge DC fan and vastly prefer DC comics to Marvel for the most part. The biggest issue for me with the DCEU is that they’ve taken small parts of the comics and hopelessly failed to adapt them into anything worthwhile, missing the point of the stories and just taking the cool visuals. Like how Batman Vs Superman shoehorns in Dark Knight Returns and Death of Superman without any substance, it’s just “look here’s Bats in a powered suit, and here’s Doomsday”, it’s as if they’re created by someone who didn’t give a shit about the comics and just skimmed them for some cool visuals. At least the MCU generally seems to understand its source material
I mean, Death of Superman was kind of wank as a comic anyway but still. -

Registered 7 years agoThe DCEU has no one in them except superpowered people and Lois. When everyone is superpowered then why care about anyone.
The best in the genre try to make you care about something other than there just being a punch up. The most recent Avengers films can get away with it now because of 20 films of the characters.
It’s the difference between a good blockbuster and the shit ones, nothing to do with art. -

For sure, though I think you can easily say the same about Aquaman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman etc as well. They’re poor movies and even worse adaptations.
That's just Snyder in a nutshell.
Not that there are any good Aquaman comics in general, but it just looked super ridiculous and failed to work on any level of even comic book plausibility. Black Manta does not work on screen full stop.

TBF this is one of the key differences between DC and Marvel in general. Marvel tends to go for “how does this affect the little people” with social issues threaded into the themes (especially for the Stan Lee ones) and more people who begrudgingly became superheroes after getting powers, whereas DC broadly takes a “gods walk among us” line. The DCEU started off somewhat embracing that, and then desperately tried to pivot when they realized the absolute wanton destruction wrought in Man of Steel should probably have some actual consequences. So it ended up as this half in between world where it wanted us to care about humans while giving us absolutely no reason to other than “lots of people died”

Registered 17 years agoDC Animation is mostly very good. I can happily watch any of those films. I've not seen the Flashpoint one but I hear that's excellent.
I suppose the Ayer Cut of Suicide Squad is going to happen. Can look forward to a lot more of Leto's Joker and seeing more of gloop men getting shot in their gloop heads.
