Registered 3 years agoUh, as much as I like Snyder's work (with the exception of Sucker Punch) I'm not ready for a longer cut of Justice League, but I am ready for the black & white version. -

That's mental though. Why set up a sequel that you know will never happen?
The dream sequence was reshot specifically for this version, so it wasn't just a case of throwing unused footage in they actually did this knowing full well there would never be any follow up. -

From Variety but can’t link at the moment. Well, at least they’re going for talent. -

Pretty much. It’s not even known if Zatanna is going to be part of the current continuity or a standalone. My guess is they’ll pretty much wrap up what Snyderverse linked stuff is in production now and keep on down the standalone movie route, or possibly use Flashpoint (if it ever gets made) as a soft reboot.

Registered 17 years agoIt seems to be more focused on individual films under the DCEU umbrella rather than interlinked stories and crossover characters again so I guess you could make an argument for it either way, and I guess Reeves Batman movie fuels the fire a bit. Hopefully they pick up, they’ve got some interesting characters to work with. -

I guess from the DC character roster hers is a story that could support a stand alone film. Most of the female characters are tied into bigger storylines. -

Watching some interviews of Snyder he clearly struggles with the thought process of building a franchise and really struggles to explain decisions he makes.
Listening to him explain dave Martha was a bit painful.
But he is also clearly hoping that fan pressure will make WB let him carry on with the franchise. -

I loved it. Clear shout out to the perennial issue of Batman not killing Joker being an increasingly hard sale. He is certainly aware of The Killing Joke as I’m sure that’s the Batman film he wanted to make.

That whole epilogue was shot so Snyder could do a Batman Joker scene. -

Also, isn’t this in the “future multiverse” (as first shown in BvS) where Batman has gone off the rails after Robin’s death and has no aversion to murder?

According to a Snyder interview, the studio gave him the $80M but told him he must not shoot anything that suggests a future plot related to this film. Given how short the scene was it seems he went out of his way to give them the middle finger. -
Bats has always been a bit ruthless, the idea that he’s had a no kill rule for all time ever set in stone canon is nonsense anyway as it shifts depending on the writer and series. He was quite happy to kill in cold blood, with guns, in his original appearances. The no kill mostly arose from a combination of the comics code and the 60’s Batman (also changing Joker from a psychopathic murderer into an annoying prankster), and then in the late 70s/80s there was a tonal shift back to everyone murdering everyone else again. He had no problems with killing Darkseid in Final Crisis for instance. And it’s always been a bit of grey area anyway where he says he doesn’t kill but is more than happy to maim and cripple, or put people in a situation where they’ll probably die, so there’s not even much of a moral argument in universe.
Of course the big answer to “why doesn’t Batman kill the Joker” is because the Joker is a popular character and they’d just end up retconning his death to bring him back anyway, like every other major character death, so it’s pretty pointless.
