    Monsterverse

    Godzilla
    Kong Skull Island
    Godzilla King of the Monsters
    Godzilla vs Kong

If the 2nd hadn't been such a mess I dare say they would have done a Pacific Rim Cross over as well

Even the first Pacific Rim was really shit.

Iím apparently a big Godzilla fan (I only really realised that recently after it dawned on me Iíd seen all the movies multiple times) and the best recent things are probably those anime ones on Netflix. I actually prefer them to shin godzilla.

And pacific rim is pretty good. It crashes along nicely and del toro has got a great eye for visuals. The sequel is shit, though. The cartoon on Netflix isnít bad, though.

King of Monsters is awful and incredibly boring.

KotM managed to triple the monster action from the first while still having too much human stuff.

Enjoyable enough but could have cut a good 30 minutes of human drama out.

I mean, the human stuff is also at the core of the Japanese Godzilla movies but itís just absolutely turgid in these.

Although I did watch the 1998 one last night which is still dreadful. No revisionism for that piece of shit.

Yeah that's just a massive mess. Can't actually think of anything I liked in that film.

Someone correct me if Iím wrong, but I believe that Godzilla (2014), Kong Skull Island, Godzilla KOTM and now Godzilla vs Kong are all part of a ĎUniversal Monsters Universeí?

Iíve only seen Kong out of the four of them but the positive reviews for GvK are making me consider watching the whole series....

Huh. And I've just found out that Gareth *Edwards* the film director is not the same person as Gareth *Evans* the film director.

The lessons are coming hard and fast today.

Perhaps that was the message all along: humans are the real monsters.

I have a soft spot for Godzilla 98. It's rubbish but in that 90s way. I'd put it on over Independence Day, Deep Impact, Armageddon, Dante's Peak, etc etc.

Independence Day does not belong on that list.

The core problem with Godzilla is that it copied too much of Jurassic Parks homework. Godzilla is supposed to be this mysterious force of nature but we have to spend the whole movie trailing around after Ferris Bueller telling us how heís just a massive, boring lizard who wonít see you if you stand still or some bollocks. It spends so much time and energy making Godzilla completely mundane itís just baffling.

    @nickthegun

Oh totally. It was made with the pure intention of jumping on the Jurassic Park hype, the baby Godzillas are a nod to that. It's also really weird for having a large amount of the Simpsons cast in it.

Is Brodzilla the one where Roger Ebert is one of the villains? I remember Emmerich got really salty about a negative review, but can't remember what form the salt took.

Not really, the mayor and his deputy are called Ebert and Siskel they're not villains they're just characters who have no impact on the plot whatsoever. It was Emmerich's way of saying gotcha, but nothing happened to them and they didn't really do anything. It was baffling if it was his way of trying to get back at them.

The bad guy in Galaxy Quest is named after a critic who gave the director a bad review, too.

I remember Shyamalan doing that in Lady in the Water, where one of the characters was a mean film critic who didn't understand the life-changing writerly genius of the main character (played by Shyamalan).

I guess it's a good way of saying 'you're pointless and insignificant'.

I mean, it feels like the better way to make them pointless and insignificant would be to ignore them.

The main art house cinema in Manchester (Home) is re-opening with The Snyder Cut.

ďWeíre delighted to be able to announce that weíll be reopening with a double bill of Legally Blonde and the Snyder cut of Justice League, introduced by @jwoodfilm, and a special Manchester Bee Pizza, featuring liquorice and beeswax stripes to celebrate the great Manchester summerĒ.

    Err...no.
