Shrug. I found Oli's article surprisingly open, and we will see what happens.

    I just pray that the new redesign means you can @ usernames with square brackets in them... ;_;

Oil seems to be a good guy but how many times have we seen the “takeover of indie by large US company, nothing will change” spiel before 6 months later, it does change and not for the better?

    Hopefully not.

    Any purchase by Microsoft basically.

I lived through a takeover of a British company by a North American one, well I lived through it, I was made redundant about 6 months later and the company closed not too long after that. Not because of the UK part, the Canadian bit sunk it, strangely that was sort of games related in that the original company made some.

Doesn't mean the same thing will happen here as there's little point in buying up Gamer Network if you don't want to keep it going.

Since most people in here claim never to read the front page anyway - and if they do it's only ironically - I'm not sure there'd be any measurable impact. :)

Good news; we're basically quality free in these forums at least already. I do try to check the front page from time to time, but usually some yoof oriented video scares me off.

I checked the front page for the first time in years and there was a Kingdom Come review on it. Never again.

    This is how it starts.

The promise of portable view to sweeten the takeover.

Soon it's have some lemonade, why don't you take off your jacket? Hey you could be a model! Maybe I should take some pictures.

Fast Forward 6 months, the forum shuts were all on the streets with our crack pipes and "Ten pounds for a Sticky Sunderland Sunrise"

I've seen it a hundred times.

I'm not sure I could find another forum with the sweet spot people of mid thirties and above age range talking about games, mixed in with a spot of cuntishness, random weirdos and folk who are generally sound. This forum brought me the sheer joy that is SpaceMonkey, and for that I'm pretty grateful.

It's a nice thought that there must have been a board meeting at some point where an American executive had to give a Powerpoint presentation of representative forum posts and comments.

    "Goddamnit Bill, what's a cockwomble?!"

Maybe ReedPOP were the evil forces that were stealing his thoughts.

Just the other day I was thinking how great it would be if Eurogamer was taken over by a big American company.

I'm pretty sure Stanley knives are covered by the second amendment, so this forum (and its most important thread) should be safe even under US ruling.

I hope we will get notified in time before they shut down the servers.

Not that I ever met any of you IRL but I will really miss this place. Bet you the end will come when I'm on vacation.

    Here's to the crazy ones.

Paging the future. If this place goes the way of the dodo, go here: http://www.reddit.com/r/eurogamer/

Yeah I know, reddit, but it's a reliable site, from which the community could continue whilst we consider other options.

They only bought it for EGX which will surely be rebranded PAX now.
