Are these reasonable upgrades for a PC?

    So with Far Cry 5 coming out soon I thought it'd be a good time to get my computer up to a good spec again.

    So checking out the recommended system requirements on the Steam page it mentions

    * AMD R9 290X graphics card
    * AMD Ryzen 5 1600 processor

    Seeing as a I have

    * AMD Radeon R9 200
    * AMD A10-6800K APU processor

    Is it worth coughing up for those two?

    R9 290X is an old GPU, the equivalent right now would be an RX580, and with current GPU prices, the answer would be no.

    However, you should probably determine what GPU you currently have first, as there is a good chance it will be able to run the game reasonably if its an R9, hell it might be a 290X!

    Your CPU is weak on the weak side, but should be able to manage.

    Given the price of PC parts right now, you may as well buy a console.

    It's struggling a lot with Assassins Creed Origins so I was worried about Far Cry, but from you're both saying I think I'll give a go as it is, and maybe get a nice CPU if it doesn't work and if I can find a decent price.

    I’d buy a PS4 Pro or an XBox One X, PC gaming is a mugs game at current prices.

    It's true, you can't get a decent GPU for the price of a console these days.

    The GPU price are coming down, a friend recently got a GTX 1060(6GB) for 420 USD, which is pretty good!

    As for you,

    Get a RX560 2GB, it will be able to run the game on medium ( at 1080). The Ryzen 5 1600 will work with it like a charm!

    If $400 for a GTX 1060 is now considered good, then we are well and truly screwed.

    I'd wait just a little bit. As for playing FC5, do consider the idea that you could get a base PS4 or X1 for as low as $200 or possibly even less, and they should probably still run the game at 30fps. Wait until DF gives its verdict, maybe.

    Given that in the worst possible current scenario he has a R9 270 which is slightly faster than a Rx560, this isnt great advice!

    OK thanks for the other replies : )

    Best info I could get was "200 series" which isn't helpful but I'll assume it's at the lower end.

    I have been debating about getting a PS4. Will see what DF says.

    Seriously don't even wait for DF and just get a PS4 Pro/XB1X (whichever has the better library for your taste).

    Get a second hand 970 or 980 instead. Considered too slow to mine coin with but still a beast of a card. Fuck consoles and their laughable following, weak catalogue, terrible backward compatibility and walled garden.
