So yes, anyway, cricket (for those who care)... Smith is now fired from his IPL team. Cue the sound of millions going down the drain.

Fucking idiot. Threw away his career for nothing.

Smith's downfall might be the biggest in the sport's history... captain of Australia and current #1 ranked test batsman in the world. I can't think of anything like this before? If he gets a lifetime ban from CA, holy shit is all I can say.

I don't think it will be a lifetime ban, but he can forget ever captaining the national team again.

I'd be happier to see Warner go down.

As much as I enjoy seeing an Aussie cricket team get destroyed its not like they are the first to mess with a ball in a test match.

The premeditated decision is clearly a step up on say bouncing a ball in the rough. Still ball tampering was pretty prevalent the 90's. I can remember NZ doing it in a test against Pakistan with a bottle cap.

The aggressive and arrogant approach Australia have taken in the past few years with their opposition and in challenging officials has come back to bite them on the arse.

I read it was likely a year ban

Let's not forget Afridi getting a bit peckish...

I don't think there's a team that hasn't had a scratch of the ball now.

Here's a nice collection of some of the most obvious ones.

It’s more the sanctimonious preaching at other teams and the feeling that they think they can set the sport’s moral boundaries that makes it so delicious.

Just heard a commentator saying that Smith and Warner might not ever play for Australia again. Which imo is a blessing in disguise as far as Warner's concerned, but that's still a huge blow to the team. :/

12 months for Smith and Warner, 9 for Bancroft

no captaincy for a couple of years for Smith and Bancroft, or foreseeable for Warner

    silly, silly boys

Oops. Surprised the "leadership group" seemed to evaporate and Boof emerged unscathed, mind.

Don't understand Lehmann getting away with it. Even if he didn't know about it beforehand, he is responsible for the team culture that has developed since his appointment that has created an environment for this to happen (and all the other shit that has happened under his reign). Stunned that CA didn't use this as an opportunity to ditch him, and clear the decks to start fresh with someone decent at the helm... unless he's secretly agreed to step down "graciously" when the dust has settled, distancing himself from this debacle.

I see that CA are going to undertake a culture review, which could still lead to his sacking.

So after the investigation, the allegations are that Warner developed the plan and asked Bancroft to carry it out, and Smith knew about it but did nothing. Doesn't make it any better of course, but I'm somewhat happy that at least it (allegedly) wasn't Smith's idea.

Smith and Warner are set to do press conferences pretty soon, so you guys can still get more of your schadenfreude fix!

Christ, I thought he would at least wait until the end of the series to announce it! The dust has barely started to lay... unless like higgy says there is something else brewing...

It is a deeply unsettling image. To be honest, Smith already looks dead inside there. Lehmann, on the other hand, just looks like your common and/or garden-variety paedophile.
