| Depends what he wants. If he wants the biggest choice in games I'd go switch, if he wants the best graphics in a console (nothing wrong with that) he should get an X. |

Registered 10 years agoDo you prefer the Switch exclusives or the few XBox exclusives that you can't get on your PC?
There's your answer.
The One X is a no-brainer for a 3rd party machine if you don't have a modern gaming PC, otherwise you have to really love Forza. -

Buying a One S is a valid alternative, but I'd stand buy the 4K Blu-ray player as one of the key plus points.

Or like I said earlier he could just get a One S, it plays the same games.

This. But if you want to play the X games then it’s a bonus I suppose.

No, and it;s also not a particularly good one compared to the standalones (which you can pick up for something like £250).
£430 is not a cheap UHD BR player.
Certainly, when I bought it at launch, you weren't getting standalone players for less than £400. Plus you get a console too that does a lot more than just play movies. These days your getting the One X bundled with a few games as well at RRP.
As for the quality of it as a player, nothing wrong with it at all. Had some issues at launch with colour balance on HDR but that has since been patched. The only issue it really has is that for the handful of Dolby Vision titles, it only supports HDR10. You still get HDR, but not the metadata enhanced DV version.
I'll be honest though, a Switch probably does make more sense for the OP. More exclusive titles that he can't already get for PC or PS4 Pro.
Appreciate I'm likely in a niche situation when you look at the mass market, but for me, having invested in a 55" OLED with HDR, and only owning a standard PS4 at the time, I wanted a machine to take best advantage of it. The combination of wanting the Xbox exclusives, wanting a 4K Blu-ray player, and wanting the highest fidelity games on it made an X a no brainer for me. A Switch on the other hand is still flooded with Wii U ports and I already have these games. The only Ninty exclusive I want so far that isnt on Wii U is Mario Odyssey. -

Registered 17 years agoThe S does most of that stuff, so would likely still be a better choice than the X for the OP.
And you absolutely were getting stand-alone UHD players for less than £400 when the X launched. Both the Xboxes are ok UHD players but decent stand-alones are better choices for those that care about PQ. -

Registered 16 years ago@Pierre2k the S also has a 4K Blu-Ray Player and costs less than £200. I'm not sure what in the OP means a Switch makes more sense, he's very clear about why he's interested in an Xbox. I have an OG XB1, PS4, XB1X and a gaming PC and if I had money to spare I'd probably get a PS4 Pro over a Switch because Nintendo games just aren't my thing so the "all you need is a Switch" isn't for everyone. -

Registered 14 years ago@Peew971 Probably because two of those systems (three if you do get a Pro) are completely redundant, whereas a Switch wouldn't be. -

Registered 16 years ago@Psiloc a Switch definitely would be if I'm not into Nintendo games. -

Registered 16 years agoBC on the One X is awesome, and not just for the fidelity upgrades, the load times are so much better too.
Plus an inbuilt library of most of the digital 360 shite you bought. -

Registered 16 years agoXBox1X is a yes when
Got a 4k HDR TV, and...
Don't have a PC, and...
Don't have either PS4Pro/XBox1(S)
XB1X is good if you have a 4k HDR TV, and nothing to use on it.
XB1X is good if you don't have any way to play the exclusives (inc. PC).
XB1X is good if you don't have a mid-cycle console for upgraded fidelity and a TV to play it on.
If your situation isn't like the above, you're spending money with limited returns... And lets face it, it's not like we gamers give a shit about stuff like that is it! -

Registered 7 years agoI happily play on my X in the living room and PC in the spare room (mostly VR but have played a lot of PUBG too).
I understand why the S is still there, but as a gaming enthusiast I would struggle to recommend an S over an X. X will give you better longevity, has prettier and higher performing games (regardless of TV quality) and has shorter load times. -

It's an improvement over these sure, but the value of the purchase vs the price is where it gets a little hard to justify (especially without a 4k HDR TV, and if you have a PC). -

Registered 18 years agoI think it's a fine purchase if your GPU is anything below a 1070-ish and you were thinking of upgrading before the prices went bananarinos.
edit: not if you are lacking a 4K display tho, obv.

Xbox one x is one of its kind, higher specs with good quality hardware that is something where sony is lacking. I'd say go for it without any second thought or go for a PC if your budget is higher.

Or buy a gaming capable laptop for half the price of the Mac, and have full fat gaming and computing on the go, in one portable package. TV/monitor optional.
Sell your PC.
Get an Xbox One X to go with your other gaming hardware.
Get a Mac for your computer needs.
Although a bit pricey initially, its the best option! -

No, buy a ps4 pro and take all the plastic covers off due to its shit design and build quality standards and cry wank yourself to sleep in a Sony duvet.
That is what all the other pro owners do on this forum. -

With X you would get a compact, quiet and powerful machine, optimised backwards compatibility compared to S, 4K, 1080p downsampling, shorter loading times... Besides, the Xbox One controller is the best, in my opinion, for 3D and 2D games.
