@THFourteen Nah. I don't have broken eyes. Tried ultrawide once at a friend's place and absolutely hated it.

@sunjumper Refitted my Stalker as an almost-pure LRM boat with a single PPC to add non-ammo-based firepower. Seems to be working very nicely indeed so far.

Another vote for IDGAF about ultra wide screen. I have a 21:9 monitor and just accept that some games won't have support immediately, if at all. I run my PS4 through mine and I don't notice the borders after the first few minutes.

I mean come on, we're a pretty small fraction of the gaming population. When I bought my Oculus I didn't expect every dev to make all their games VR compatable. It was my choice to buy a funky aspect ratio and I don't regret it for one second; the stuff that works is lovely and the stuff that doesn't has borders.

I know I sound like I'm having a go at you but I do understand the frustration. Ultra wide is great but don't let it stop you getting a game you are clearly interested in.

Very good. Give in to teh dark side. Drop that PPC. Imagine all the ammo you could add, or additonal armour, or a targeting system, or delicious jump jets.

    @TheRealBadabing

No, I get where you are coming from.

I guess my main concern is that I play the game now, and then in 3 months time they patch in ultrawide support and I might as well have waited.

I'm sure i'll buy it eventually, I have a tonne of other things to do at the minute including having just bought FM 2018 on android and a massive tvshow and lego backlog.

@sunjumper Worth noting, though, that I've seen people on the official forums reporting that LRMs are overpowered compared to the tabletop game because the way their hit-table is being implemented in the game results in their accuracy being over-stated (particularly on indirect fire). I've not seen a response from the developers on this, but I wouldn't be surprised to see LRMs get a nerf in a patch.

    @Rogueywon
Interesting point. As far as I can see the LRMs do scatter a lot and a quick well armoured mech can pretty much walk through missile rain for a while before it become a problem.
I have really no idea how it compares to the table top game nor how it would work in the game if it was implemented in a different way.

If the LRMs get nerfed in one of the future patches... it would be time to go back to the mech lab and work on some new designs. Which is actually pretty neat as it would give me an impulse to move out of my comfort zone and work on new strategies again.

Possibly mispriced (so may not last) but digital deluxe edition on amazon is £10.29, if anyone is still on the fence...

Good spot there, well in impulse buy range.

Looks like a pricing error to me. It's exactly the same price as the Digital Deluxe upgrade to the main game on Steam. Can't be coincidence.

If it is a pricing error it's the second time it's happened.

If anybody's interested in that Amazon link - pointed a real life friend of mine at it and he bought. It is indeed the full Digital Deluxe version of the game - not just the DLC upgrade.

Almost certainly a pricing mistake, but not much they can do if you get in there fast.

I've literally just bought it and screenshotted the code for later surely they can't do anything about it now.

Yep, it worked. Awesome find as I've been planning on getting, at that price for the game let alone the deluxe I can't say no to take a look. And I was late to the party in grabbing.

Hrnnnng. If I weren't being so strong on my ten game limit I'd snap this up. I barely have time to play what's on my plate already, much less with a deep tactical game on top. I guess it'll be this price on Steam come Christmas anyway...

Stuffing the backlog is a big no-no. :)

Realistically, it'll be this price by the time I have the ability to properly play it anyway. It's only the OOOH SHINY and OOOH BARGAIN sensors that are going off loudly in my brain. It's on the wishlist. It's just a matter of time.

Maybe they'll have sped up the animations some more by the time I'm ready.

    Oh my!!
    Just played through the tutorial.
    Firstly: it's fairly long,
Secondly: it's shredded my nerves to shit
    Thirdly: I bloody loved it!!!

Had to haul raju for the last two encounters as his mech was wrecked, which added to the tension exponentially as I can't leave a man behind..........yeh well......

Now I need a lie down...........

@ChiefGB Wait until you get into the "proper" missions. The tension in this game is insane.

Thing is it's similar to xcom, I can't play them too long at a time as I just can't take it lol. I'm assuming these missions are pretty long then if that was just the tutorial, although I would have likely been quicker if he wasn't down to one leg anyway.

@ChiefGB Missions mostly take me 40-60 minutes, but with a few outliers on either side.

I'm gently pottering my way through this, having just completed the second 'proper' main story mission. Very much enjoying it.

Had a bit of luck earlier in the random mission side of thing. Had an assassinate mission, and some good targeting and RNG meant I disabled the first heavy mech I came across (shoulder impacts, head impact and a knockdown dealt with the pilot). So I now have an Orion in my little squad.

Definitely a slow burner this one. My experience with XCOM and Eve Online is really helping with the all the mechanics.

@MikeP The Orion was my first heavy mech as well and it's a generally solid all-rounder (if not spectacular in any particular role). In the late-game I tended to drift away from the all-rounders towards more specialised mechs, but picking up an Orion fairly early in the campaign is definitely a good thing.

@Rogueywon I managed to find a pilot-protecting cockpit mod in a store right away too, and I've sacrificed a little bit of armour for some jump-jet utility.

It feels like the game is opening up, now that I have the Argo at my disposal.

Is there much of a trick to getting a whole mech? Just finished the first story mission and got two parts of a QuickDraw, seems a shame not to have all 3 parts.

Loving this game so far, just pottering and taking my time with it really. Thereís quite a lot to learn.

Also early on is it worth hiring extra pilots? I seem to be spending a decent amount of time on waiting for repairs and healing. I also donít really have 6 mechs I want to field anyway.

Lucky headshots or focusing on the legs will net you more parts.

It's worth getting a few replacements trained up as injuries will start to crop up. Definitely ensure you at least have a backup ready for when Decker unexpectedly explodes.
