What's the thoughts on the combined DLCs? They have mixed reviews on Steam where as the base game is positive. Looks like the Paradox sale on Humble can net all 3 DLCs for about £18. |

Registered 15 years agoDefinitely worth getting if you like the base game.
Flashpoint adds a whole new post-game for once you've finished the campaign and greatly enhances career mode. Adds three new mechs and a whole bunch of mini-campaigns.
Urban Warfare focusses on mission variety. Adds two new mechs, a new biome, a couple of new mission types and a bunch more mini-campaigns.
Heavy Metal is more about mech variety. Adds an absolute shitload of new mechs, plus a few new mini-campaigns that hint at a Clans-based sequel. -

Registered 14 years agoThanks- is it worth it for an in-progess campaign?
Also- any experience of crashes? I know the game was patched recently but when I picked this game up again a week ago I struggle to go 30mins without a crash. -

Registered 15 years ago@sherpa1984 For an in-progress campaign, you will see most of the new mechs show up in markets and as adversaries. The exceptions are the Hatchetman (FP), Raven (UW) and Bullshark (HM), which require post-game mini-campaigns to be completed before they unlock.
I've never really had crashes in Battletech. If you're getting them, it may be down to drivers or something on your PC. -

Registered 14 years agoI resumed my career after a bit of a hiatus. It's all going swimmingly, got 8 good pilots, no fatalities yet and 2 mech bays of decent mediums mainly. Big fan of the Wolverine this time round for their jumpiness, decent heat management and ability to backstab.
I've just picked up an Orion V and a Warhammer. On the latter i swapped out the ppcs for 2 LL's and upped the armour a bit. Not used a Warhammer before, should be decent in close range.
I think I've just started the Heavy Metal quest line (something about rescuing a Kurita hostage from some corporation). It's 2 skull and is a doddle so far. -

Registered 15 years ago@DasBooter The Warhammer's an interesting mech - well-armed, but poor heat management and thin armour in its default config. You probably want to use it as a second-line brawler, holding its range out a bit rather than getting in close with mechs with big-hitting close-in weapons like AC20s or SRM6s.
And yes, that'll be the start of the Heavy Metal quest line. It's actually 4 flashpoints of escalating difficulty, requiring you to pass a few in-game weeks between each of them. The first three are fairly modest in difficulty, while the fourth is hellish. But you get the Bull Shark from the third and there's no time-limit on doing the fourth. -

Registered 14 years agoJust got the Bullshark. Oh my, can't wait to play with it.
It has such exotic weaponry it's bound to get it's arms shot off first mission.. -

Registered 15 years ago@DasBooter The Bullshark is awesome. The MAZ model (the one it gives you for free) is a LosTech nightmare best used as a second-line mech. Now you've got it, the non-LosTech M3 model will also show up in missions and markets.
That one's not too exciting at first glance, but... strip its starting equipment and its insane range of hardpoints and huge spare capacity make it the most customisable mech in the game. I had one with three Gauss Rifles that out-sniped even the sniper-ified King Crab. -

Registered 14 years agoSounds good. My main line up at this stage is rather solid King Crab, Highlander, Orion and Warhammer.
My last mission was part 3 of Heavy Metal, where I had to fight off the Black Widow company but all they sent was 2 lances of Mediums, several of which I practically one-shotted. Can't wait to do the same with the BS -

Registered 15 years ago@DasBooter Got your King Crab in the dual Gauss configuration yet? You lose a little raw firepower, but it becomes the headshot king with the right pilot.
Be warned that part 4 of Heavy Metal has two missions, the second of which is fucking insane. That said, the rewards for it are nothing special and you can do it whenever, but no rush.
If you do want to do it soon, there is a bit of a sneaky tactic you can do to make it much easier...
At the start of the mission, move your three slowest mechs south. There will be a slope they can climb, to a forest on a plateau by the edge of the map. Hide them in there. At the same time, send your fastest sensibly-sized mech (the Warhammer would work well) north to encounter the enemy. Once it does so, turn and run south after the other mechs. A turn after you make contact with the enemy, a second enemy lance arrives.
If you've done everything properly at this point, the two enemy lances will duke it out between themselves. You can hide safe in your forest on the hill. One enemy mech (the modified Marauder) usually comes your way, but just focus all fire on it to kill it. You may get a second if you're unlucky. But after around a dozen turns, the two enemy lances will have pounded the shit out of each other and only the dregs of one will be left. At that point, you sweep down from your hill and mop up whatever's left. -
Haha brilliant, I'll do that.
No just a couple of AC20++. I've either barely seen Gauss/Lostech stuff available or can't afford it.
