    Hey guys,

I am currently studying Business and marketing HONS with open uni and am thinking about getting further in to the finance side of it as I progress in to year 2.

I have spoken with the tutor and he says I can study another course along the side whether that be accounting and finance or further but numbers weren't my strong point at school and something I have always wanted to improve massively on and love looking at a business profit, loss and finances. Can anyone help in terms of studying to courses at the same time or maybe starting numbers at a lower level?

Your tutor is correct in that there’s nothing stopping you from studying additional subjects or modules but it may not count towards your named degree.

You could potentially pivot your learning from business and marketing to business and accounting by either transferring modules over to a new named degree (some of your existing modules may not count) or possibly switching to an open degree which allows you to study any subjects you like (within reason). Best bet would be to contact student support to see what your options are.

As for studying two modules at the same time, it’s going to depend on your circumstances, I found that I could study any two level 1/2 modules at the same time just fine but two level 3 at the same time was too much for me - I was working full-time during my studies and I love procrastinating ;)

As marmite says, two full credit courses with the OU and a job is pushing it, especially if you're weak in one of the subjects. I'd do no more than one credit a year with a job.

Its fine doing other courses that interest you. I did art alongside my IT degree and I really enjoyed it. You'll know if it will count or not or if you care.

Doing a few modules at once can be ok but you have to choose them really well. I did 3 at once but there was enough crossover between them and my job at that time that it cancelled some of the work out. If you're week on numbers then do them separately but from memory the maths isn't very complex on business courses, it's just learning the process and presentation of them.

I was working full time but was single then so could spend as much time in evenings and weekends as I wanted.

@reviewer Yeah wanted to look at the accounting side which is obviously a big part of business - I believe with the course I am on you have to go down a direct route in the course anyway be that Marketing, Finance etc so that could do the trick.
