Okay so I’ve owned my slim for a few years now. Never had any real problems with it. But Lately I’ve noticed the fan when I turn it on and when it’s on the main screen it’s a little louder than I remember? It’s not like a vacuum sound, or extremely loud that it seems like a very serious problem. But it’s not as quiet as I thought. It’s also only like this when in the main menu. Once you loud a game it quiets down and can barely be heard. Of course it gets louder as you play longer but it’s never concerned me during game. Do you think it’s normal to be a little loud when I’m not playing a game? Am I just paranoid over nothing and maybe just didn’t remember how it was? Let me know if your slim is similar, or if it’s an actual problem. |
What is your PS3 slim fan like?

Registered 14 years agoYou don’t happen to have DVD in the drive do you (as opposed to a BR)?
Mine spins DVDs up really fast when it’s idling for some reason. -

No currently I have a BR disc in it.
When I took the disc out it on the main screen it seemed to have quieted down again like it would in a game. I feel like there’s no real problems if it stops once the game is in play, and it only seems to happen in larger games if that makes sense

It's your disc drive that's noisy then, not the fan. There's not a great deal you can do about it, but yeah for some reason the PS3 does seem to spin discs up really loudly on the XMB, and quietens down when it's actually streaming data from them in-game. I wouldn't worry about it.
