Ok, got a meeting room at work with a networked TV on one wall and a projector beamed onto the other. Both hooked up to a central slimline under counter networked PC. Looking to introduce a webcam (for video conferencing), though slightly lost where it goes/connects to.

Tips and model suggestions?

Doesn't it have any USB ports? That's where it would go. Webcams are a bit passe these days but Logitech is a decent brand. You can use a GoPro on a tripod as well.

Single person videoconferencing or the whole room? 360 with active speaker, or flat forward facing? Need audio or do you have separate audio conferencing?

Whole room. Yeah PC has USB but I wasn't sure if the cam plugs direct into the TV and uses Skype or equivalent? Or can you get ethernet standalone cams that you plonk anywhere you have a network port?

Can you tell I'm dipping my toe in this area? Budget around Ł100, hilarious?

Perhaps use something like Webex to record the sessions etc..

You can get whole videoconferencing solutions that'll just plug into your comms infrastructure, yeah, but you're looking at the best part of a grand for something quasi-decent. Something like a Microsoft LifeCam would work reasonably well to just plug into the desktop and mount above the monitor, they're about the best budget ones for room audio.

Don't get a GoPro. They won't even work as a webcam without an additional capture box.

Heh, yeah. I was expecting the budget to have a little more pop than Ł100.

Any off the peg HD webcam with a good USB extension cord will do the trick, you'll need a central standing mic to pick up audio though. This should be perfectly adequate as it has different settings including a room pickup.

Probably worth pointing out that webcams tend to not do well with extension cords unless they're active USB though. A bog standard USB extension cord will probably cause problems.

It depends on the quality of the cord for sure, some Ł2 piece of shit isn't going to cut it.

Hmmmm, I've bought a Ł10 piece of shit cable so lets see. Plus a Logitech C920, the LifeCam looked great but didn't want to chance the extension cable issue.

I would say that if you struggle to keep your face out of shot then get a mask. Also check for distinguishing features on the underside of your shaft, a lot of people forget to do that.
