While I greatly appreciate the acknowledgement displayed in this thread, this is the correct answer:

Not the funniest films compared to the rest but Dead men don't wear plaid and High Anxiety are worth a watch , Dead men is a Steve Martin film noir spoof made with old movie clips and the other is Mel Brooks doing Hitchcock . Steve Martin making a cup of his famous java still cracks me up even though it's a stupid gag .

    (the answer is obviously Airplane!)

If a stone cold classic is a joke? You terrible cunt :D

    Anyway, I'm not a fan of straight up comedies, I need a good film behind them, so mine are;

    Holy Grail
    Some Like It Hot
    Hot Fuzz
    The Burbs
    The Boat That Rocked
    Evil Dead II
    Election
    Ed Wood
    Elf
    Airplane
    Superbad

In my defence I saw it about 15 years after Uni and every fanny blabbering about it.
Even if you think it's a classic, I don't remember is being that funny.

    Anchorman was funnier, so there.

That's how it works when people force you to watch a funny on a bender. Like the python films, watch in your own time.

    Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

I do like a bit of Laurel and Hardy also, mostly scenes on YT, really makes me snigger at the interplay between them and the unfortunate folk they come across.

Burn After Reading is one of the funniest films I've seen in 'recent' years.

Best two posts in a row by anyone for a while. : D

Groundhog Day is my favourite film bar none, Ghostbusters a close second. I may have a Bill Murray fixation.

WWDITS is hilarious. Top Secret, Airplane, Kung Pow, Team America are all top notch.

Holy Grail may be the funniest film I've seen, I see it as above Brian.

Although I probably haven't seen many comedy films, but that one springs to mind.

    My toppers =
    Dumb & Dumber
    Me, myself and Irene
    Meet the Parents
    Planes Trains Autos
    Clerks
    Groundhog Day

To be fair, TV is where all the best comedy is at.

The Hangover is one of my favourite comedy’s of recent years, it’s just very well put together and Mr Chow is great

Trading Places is just a great movie full stop, kudos to those that have picked it

The American Pie movies are a good shout too, probably looked down on but still funny

    My top 5 probably:

    Dumb and Dumber
    Me Myself and Irene
    There's Something About Mary
    Kingpin
    Anchorman

Four of those are Farrelly Brothers films, they definitely had a great purple patch.

Life of Brian is the clear winner, but Idiocracy deserves an honorable mention for "most relevant". BEEF SUPREME!

Hah, watching Life of Brian now actually. What a film!

My vote is for The Evil Dead films. Groovy.

Love The Naked Gun films too.
