See that Minimum Frame Limit? That's dynamic res right there. If the game goes below that treshold, it will engage dynamic resolution to make ends meet. Try disabling it and see what happens to your framerate.

Reapplying the thermal paste actually allowed me to get away with slightly slower fan speeds. Now it's down to 70% (which is still quite noisy, thank you very much), with clocks slightly up to 1200mhz, and the temperature doesn't rise above 79 degrees even after half an hour of Unigine Heaven. This will have to do for the next year, I guess.

Also this is what I get from the benchmark. I could probably increase a few settings a bit, but I'd rather keep a margin for the busier situations, so that the dynamic res doesn't kick in too often.

Have you tried running texture related settings at maximum? Typically those don't really affect frame rate unless you run out of VRAM. 8GB would be plenty.

Yeah, in fact I could run with most settings higher and still get 60fps.

Now that I shouldn't get throttled anymore, I might as well try and do that. The dynamic resolution shouldn't be as noticeable during busy scenarios anyway.

These are almost my recommended settings (I only lowered a few things like volumetric fog and screen surface reflections).

Oh man, Gears 5 is so much better when I can play on recommended settings with no framerate drops anymore. The dynamic res gets a bit aggressive sometimes, but fair enough, my PC is no powerhouse anymore.

And the campaign is a big improvement over 4, there is more variety, the enemy waves don't last as much, and there are more checkpoints. The story still sucks like always, but whatever.

Just got to Act 3, heard lots of people saying that the Act 2 boss was the most annoying in the game so hopefully I should be in the clear now. To be honest, I didn't even find it that bad. Just had too much health.

It had too much health and could one-shot you. That's a combination that can easily lead to frustration.

As I said above, remembering Jack existed made it perfectly doable, but I had struggled a bit with it on Experienced before that. Act 3's boss can also be a bit tricky, but there's a knack to it that makes it pretty easy when you get it (just did it last night).

I'm around 20 hours now and just into Act IV :o

I just dropped the difficultly down as soon as I got to it after reading all the comments on this. Problem solved. Back up now on to act 3.

It only has like three attacks though. And it's very easy to goad it into the ice. When you need to get ammo or your interface starts screwing up, just walk slowly and the boss won't ever hear you. Honestly, it was no RAAM.

I can think of four off the top of my head (charge, jump, one spike, multiplae spikes). It's not the number of attacks, it's just that if you make a slight mistake, it will punish you. It's quite easy to get snagged on the edge of the shattered ice, for example, which can lead to an immediate game over.

I found the fight frustrating due to the randomness. I died once getting sucked into the ice the Matriarch was stuck in when shooting its back, once to Del dying (?), the multiple spears attack would sometimes one-shot me, other times just down me.

When i did it, it seemed more due to the game allowing it than anything i had done differently. Could've been made more enjoyable with a few tweaks i think.

I got a game over last night because I overturned a bookcase to use as cover, and Del was standing next to it. Thing crushed the poor sod and turned him into jam.

I'd like to say I felt bad, but it was quite funny.

SET CINEMATICS TO 60. The scene at the end of act 1 was quite something. The 1080ti is really holding on in this game. O_O

Yeah, it's fucking great. I keep having to stop and just... look at things. Cutscenes are really well done as well, especially being real time now, with some really nice transitions into gameplay.

    @Ror

    Thatís a great shot Ror.

That last chapter is pure eye candy and reminds me of gears 1 with the destroyed beauty aspect of Sera

Iím playing 4K with my 1080Ti and found disabling motion blur and depth of field really helped with the frame rate everything else is maxed out and it looks glorious

Always funny how Gears games try to play their stories like they are some kind of highly dramatic war flicks, when really they are C-movies material at best.

@bone-on Yeah, it helps that you're revisiting areas from Gears 1 as well, like East Barricade Academy and Tomb of the Unknowns. Nice little trip down memory lane :)

Really addicted to Gears 5. I'm one level away from fourth re-up. Been playing so much Horde with a regular group. We've done 1-50 on a couple of maps on Inconceivable, so we had a try on Master difficulty last night. Couldn't even get past Wave 6! It's really cool how you have to play on the harder levels to have a chance of winning the better cards. Playing on levels below Elite level is so boring now, and I only do it to quickly mop up active tour objectives. Playing the versus modes is so fun and tense, it reminds me of original Gears when you have a good match. The graphics are so amazing. This is a good ass game imo.

@Vortex808 the first game, maybe. All of the sequels play it completely straight, except maybe Gears 4, and even that changes pretty quickly.

I am playing it more mate, as in daily. Unfortunately I still think it is the weakest of the series overall. Saying that my passion burns very bright with anything to do with Gears so I still get enough out of it.

Luckily I still play all the others of course, specifically Gears 3.

Personally, I think it's all done very much tongue in cheek.

Begger, better & more badass or whatever hyperbole cliff blathered on about is not serious in any shape or form.

It's schlocky b-movie and it knows it.

You don't sink cities with a giant worm without tongue set firmly in cheek, after all.
