Registered 1 year agoA soft reboot would be awesome. Halo drank its own kool aid with 4 and 5. Till this day I have no idea what either were about, nor do I particularly care to dig into the extended universe.
Also thought 2 and 3 were kinda missteps as well tbh. Arbiter and Covenant going weird Shakespearean.
Halo CE's sense of wonder and Reach's simple but cinematic focus were by far the best two imo.
I wouldn't mind a soft reboot that kicks off after the events of CE (or more likely, 3), and introduces a darker, more 'alien' Covenant for a new generation i.e. lose the bright colors, goofy voices and movement. -

I can't fucking wait for this. Explore an open world Halo with a grapple hook and the whole spectrum of Halo vehicles? Yes please.
Here's a few things I noticed from the demo.
The map shows you can take on some objectives in any order. This is something I've wanted Halo to get back to since Silent Cartographer in Halo 1, only massively expanded, and it seems like we'll get that here. Halo 5's last mission kind of hinted at it a bit, too.
Base movement speed seems higher (even though sprint is still in), which makes it feel a bit more fast-paced overall. Slide and clamber are also back. Didn't see thrust, I hope it makes a return.
It's more colourful - leaning much further towards Halo 1, and they have said it's a 'spiritual reboot' This also means cleaner, simpler lines, etc, which might not be for everyone.
You can grapple items, like the fusion coils, then throw them at others to damage them. Grapple pulls you to enemies (my dreams of grappling into someone's face with a plasma sword should be alive and well!).
Enemies look to be affected by where you shoot them - the player shoots a running brute in the leg to make him stumble. IIRC, a lead combat designer on Horizon Zero Dawn went to 343, so could be an influence on this. I could see this being an important consideration in combat, and maybe hinting at larger enemies?
There's a lot of new, or at least reimagined weapons, as well as returning weapons like the halo 3 mauler. Weapons sound great.
Really excited to see more, and I have to imagine than MP is a very separate thing from the SP now.
EDIT - spelling

Registered 17 years agoI love Halo and I've no doubt I'll play and enjoy this, but, it looks a little underwhelming. The character models and animation especially are in need of a much bigger overhaul than what they appear to have received.
I was hoping for a real showcase of a mega budget next gen title, but I don't think that's what's been delivered so far. -

Registered 7 years agoOk, so that looks a LOT better. 60fps smoooth. I was watching on 1080p on my phone and it was very crisp.
Agreed that some of my previous concerns were due to style, which wasn't obvious when I watched the lower quality love stream in small scale on my phone while also reading the EG comments.
I was trying to look for pop in, I think i only saw some mist behave a bit erratically during the lift -

Registered 17 years agoYou’re not gonna get that on a cross-gen title.
Though, admittedly, I would have expected more than they’ve delivered.

Registered 17 years agoYeah, it's a shame that they've gone cross platform. I get why, but as a true Halo CE homage it would be great if they made a killer app, exclusively for the new console. -

Registered 17 years agoWho’s to say it won’t be a lot more enemies, bigger battles, better AI etc. on the SX version? Also, it’s still about 4 months away and that could be an older version on the engine etc.
I wouldn’t go dismissing the cross gens as underperforming in the SX just yet. -

Registered 4 years agoAs lukus said I thought the animations looked really off. That opening scene with the crash, the pilots face animations looked shit Vs say tlou2. Basically I thought it looked fun but a Xbox one title. -

Registered 17 years agoIf that was true it’d be massive faux-pas to show what they did as the headline for their next-gen first party line-up. -

Yeah. There is that. No sign of the DF analysis yet. The Sony one was up almost immediately after.

Registered 14 years agoI was underwhelmed. Looked very this generation, not next. Compromised to be able to run on the Xbox One no doubt. But yes it looks great fun to play and I'm sure I'll buy it anyway. -

That’s literally what the entire event was, it’s their whole strategy now. It’s a great service but it’s massively disappointing that the best reason to buy an Xbox is because it’s a cheap way to play games.

Registered 6 years agoIt looks pretty dreadful to me in all honesty. Graphically at least. Destiny 2 is going to be running at 4k 60fps on the new consoles apparently and it'll look significantly better than that. And that's 4 year old or something now. -

Registered 12 years agoand yeah, it looks about as underwhelming as you could imagine. Yay, grapple hooks! I just hope they haven't explained the world going back in time to 2015 in one of their novels. -

Registered 1 year agoI think I'm done with Halo now tbh. The high-pitched squeals, silly voices and fast pace are still there? It's all just a bit cartoonish for my tastes.
But because Game Pass, I'll probably at least try it out for a bit. -

Registered 15 years agoWhat are you lot on about? I thought it looked stunning.
The original art style and gameplay with modern sharp graphics.
I'm a bit concerned about the map. Looked a bit Far Cry. Far Cralo? I don't mind open world but I don't want a map full of icons. Would prefer the semi open world approach of the first game.
Still, exploring an open world halo ring could be a good way to replicate the awe/wonder the original created. -

Registered 2 years agoI saw the trailer and just thought, in twenty years, same location, same enemies, same vehicles, same gameplay, same weapons, oh look, it’s Just Cause’s grappling hook.
You could make the same comment about any other FPS series, I don’t play them either. Trailers should be designed around Wow moments though and this was just Wew... -

Registered 19 years agoPlaying through the series now isn't a smooth ride. They're well made, competent in every way, full of unique touches and showcase a certain attention to the bread and butter details that has never been fully replicated. But the gameplay is repetitive, old fashioned and the whole thing is steeped in an odd pretension which I don't think I've really seen in any other game aside from maybe the GTA series. There's something self masturbatory about it.
Overall, I think I like that swagger, it's nice to see competent devs play with an, at the time, fairly limited medium in ways no others have. But it takes itself far too seriously and you get the feeling you're playing someone's idea of the type of thing you'd experience in reality. Despite nothing being anything close to reality in any way.
It's a weird dichotomy and I think it somehow carries the games when they hit their numerous weak points, but ultimately I think they were trapped in the minutia and forewent pushing the genre forward in any meaningful or compelling way.
Decent games, great even. Just not close to being as good as people would have had you think back in the day. -
