Anyone been watching the weekly streams they've been doing to show off the different seasons? The game really is looking beautiful.

I loved 2 but had to stop playing 3 as I found the constant chatter from the festival people, garage whoever, barn finds what have you obnoxious and with no option to turn it off. I just want to roam, race, without these talkative buggers constantly prattling on.

@b-rk They do get less frequent the further into the thing you get.

Hoping that with a UK setting, we can lose the Dudebro trappings entirely for FH4.

Decided to get the ultimate edition and return to the Xbox for this. Paid £60 in the end due to sourcing some cheap credit. Roll on release.

I'll wait to see how the performance is on PC before buying day one.
I got FH3 day one and I completed it before it was really fixed.

Agreed about the tone, it was a little bit OTT in the last one. Overall a fun game with loads to do though.

It'll be the same just with chatty Scottish people who won't shut the fuck up. Still, at least the setting is more interesting this time. I found Australia quite bland to drive around in FH3.

@b-rk Ifound Australia surprisingly bland as well - maybe overexposure to “exotic” landscapes in games. I’ve never played FH2, but it always appealead to me much more. Same for the upcoming one, which looks great.

FH2 had a great location in theory, but just seemed poorly planned. It had maybe a 75% open world, but lots of it was densely filled with trees, meaning you had to stick entirely to the road anyway for the most part. FH3 had the advantage in allowing you to make much more use of the space available, and less chance of heading into dead ends closed off by barriers.

FH4 seems more like FH3 in that sense, but with even the walls being destructible I'd be concerned it's gone bit too far that way.

Demo out later today though, so not long to find out.

Personally, I thought FH2 was probably the weak-link in the series (though still a very good game). A few parts of its world were lovely, but a lot of it just tended to blur together. Once you got outside of the urban areas, it sometimes felt like a series of linearly connected race-tracks. FH3's world struck me as both more interesting (with an interesting mix of environments) and better planned, with lots of quite intricately interconnected sections.

That said, I wouldn't mind a bit of a swing of the pendulum back towards on-road rather than off-road racing for FH4. FH3 went just a bit too heavy on the off-road stuff for my tastes, particularly with those bloody buggies.

Yeah a little too much off roading in 3 and I think 2 possibly had the better showcase events. It's splitting hairs though as they are so much better than any other arcade racer.

Personally, I'd love it if the introductory event for FH4 involved some kind of ridiculously overblown destruction (in the manner of Top Gear's old caravan-wrecking rampages) of those bloody buggies. Seriously, they would have been fine in FH3 as a novelty, but when something like 20% of the events involved them (and all of them had that infuriating "Hey, buggies, this is gonna be fun!") voice over at the start, they ended up massively over-used.

I think I did user made events whenever they were forced upon me.

Yeah, I've been less enamoured with each release, as the emphasis has swung more and more towards off-roading.

First one is still the high point for me.

@Frogofdoom I think the problem with the buggy events was partly that there were so many of them and partly that there were so few vehicles in the class. There were only, I think, 3 buggies (with a fourth later added as DLC). That gave you a huge number of races with very few options for mixing it up in car terms (plus the Ariel Nomad was so much better than the other options that it was faintly silly).

By contrast, if you hit a run of events in... say... the Track Toys category, you could have a dozen or more different options to try out.

I do like the off-roading in the FH games and wouldn't want to see it vanish. But I think they need to keep it as a non-dominant aspect of the game. Maybe confine it to 25% of events or something (in FH3, I think it was roughly 50%).

I don't think I got anywhere close to finishing 3. It looks incredible, but it never really hit the wow factor heights as that first mission where you're racing that helicopter. Found it quite hard to suspend disbelief when you're racing a low profile Lambo through fields and woods.

I hope it's more like 1 and less like 3. I don't wanna necessarily have to deal with the campaign mode to unlock map features.

Anyway, I'll still have a month of Game Pass by the time this releases, so I'll be sure to give it a good spin.

I'm just hoping that the campaign structure is a little more like 2: I found 3 a bit unstructured and too easy to get bogged down in where to go next. The tour aspect of 2, and those ace long drives in convoy to the next location really helped out.

I quite liked the structure in FH3. Do a few events in each "biome" to unlock further events there, as well as access to the next area. I blitzed through the main "story campaign" in a fairly short time, but then spent a long, long time playing the game further to wrap up the other events.

Says the demo is now available now but doesn't look like you can download it just yet. Just takes you to the preorder page. Maybe later.

@AddieB Where did you get £80 worth of credit for £60? I hadn't even thought about going down that route.
