    Released 25th January 2019.

I'm a big fan of tank Resi and was hoping they wouldn't go over the shoulder but the trailer did a good job of selling it to me, looks great.

Can we all agree to have a truce on the whole early vs modern Resi controls argument, seeing as we already went through it in the E3 thread?

Anyway, looking forward to this a lot!

Agreed. Both excellent versions of Resi. Must play through the Resident Evil HD whatsit at some point before release!

Everyone needs the Resident Evil 1 Remake Remaster

Also, I am very excited for the REimagining of 2 even if I want it to be more like 7 than 4.

You could have a mixed set of cameras. Over the shoulder for general pootling about with key locations from fixed angles. That could be interesting.

I was hoping for a zero and remake of 1 treatment, but it still looks great and RE2 is probably my favourite of the series.

    Looking forward to this.

I loved how you could play the 2nd game and get slight changes to what happens and where. like the guy "keeping a close eye on things" or the guy in the prison cell scene.
the 3rd and 4th playthroughs were special as well.

the more I'm reading the more I'm worrying it will just be a linear resi 5 style with resi evil 2 story.

Yeah. I can't remember which order I preferred, Leon first, then Claire, or the other way round, but I loved how the 1st play through with one character carried over to the other.

I think I played Leon scenario 1 and Claire 2 first. It's certainly the version I consider canon.

I played both combinations a lot, it was probably between that and FF7 for my favourite PS1 game. I am very excited.

I hope they don't strip out the Leon and claire scenarios in favour of a conventional Co-Op setup.

This is probably the most exciting news of E3 besides Dragon Quest XI.

Apparently they both have their own campaign. Always Leon and then Claire for me back in the day, actually don't know how it worked if you played it the other way around. Did the story stay the same?

There were some differences, and the scripts were different depending on who was the 'lead' character. There was always one that felt "right"

For me it's was the one that ended with Leon turning to the camera at the end saying "it's up to us to take out umbrella", cue rock track. For some reason when Claire said it, it lacked the gravitas.

Feels weird spoilering a 20 year old game, but better to be safe than sorry. Don't want to ruin it for a whole new generation of Resi fans! :)

20 years, I feel old! All of these games feel like 10 years ago at the most.

    But that's from RE 1.
    /pedant

Personally I liked both old-school tank controls and RE4 OTS view. Was pissed off though that they replaced classic zombies with some ugly villagers...

I like that the zombies look like they just used the exact same concept art and just recreated the PS1 cop zombies in the new engine.

I still think REmake or 7 might have been a better basis for it but I can see this playing like Revelations 2 did in being linear action focused and moving through story. I liked Revelations 2 so hopefully more that than RE6.

I'm kind of a bit relieved to see that video actually - I was worried that it was going to become a bit more actiony, but it looks like they've kept the puzzles and the tension from the game.

The move to over the shoulder doesn't worry me as much as when I first saw it as long as the whole game is paced similar to the original. If it ramps up to be more shooter based I won't be as happy :)

As far as I recall, the biggest difference is the surprise introduction of Mr. X, back in those days you had no idea that was coming when you were running through the remaining scenario and suddenly Mr. X turned up.

Surprises like that just don't happen anymore, it would be in a trailer, review or a preview or somebody would spoil it.

I think I played Claire then Leon because you'd get Ada helping out Leon with Mr. X. Though I may be wrong, I haven't played the game through since the N64 version was released.

I've just been reading the differences in the story and to go against the consensus my favourite was Claire then Leon. I think that's because the intro follows Claire before she meets Leon. Seems like this is considered canon, where as Claire B is an alternate "what if" scenario.

Man, I really hope they keep some of this 2-sided storytelling for the remake.

There's a Resident Evil 3.5 vibe about it. It's not set in broad daylight and there aren't any fast plagas zombies around.

    So I'm warming to it.

I also like that they're using the inventory and UI scheme from RE7.

Yeah, that is a nice touch.

Still on the fence though: I did try to play both RE4 and RE5 again on the PC recently, but the controls are just such an abomination on both KB&M and on a pad :(
