I am amazed at the number of mulslim countries in that list
    Trade/Money.

Makes a mockery of any idea of solidarity or unity.

The clout China has in the west is huge but in Africa and Asia it's truly scary.

For a bit of good news, the far-right populist coalition government in Italy tumbled a couple weeks ago, but instead of going for a new election (which would have almost surely given the far right party a much bigger majority), they actually went for a new government made of a left-wing party and the usual populists.

Unfortunately, what worries me is that the left-wing party and the populists disagree on a whole lot of things, so I don't expect this new government to last long - and when it inevitably falls, it will be a matter of whether people have forgotten enough about the far-right party to not vote for them anymore. At the moment, the far right is ahead in most popularity surveys, well ahead of the populists too (who were much more popular last year). Which is why a new election right now would have probably been a disaster.

    Disaster averted... for now.

Itís a hideous election stunt, and hopefully one that massively backfired at the polls.

You're always going on about Benjamin Netanyahu. Let it go, you're never going to meet him.

Yeah. The scary information that ISIS prisoners are being unsupervised and will definitely break out. Trump there fucking everyone over on a whim because he didn't want to upset the biggest boys.

Well itís been confirmed that a prison containing ISIS fighters was bombed and that some are escaping. Just unconfirmed if the prison was deliberately targeted.

Same with US special forces over there. Pentagon released a statement saying they came under fire.

Really puts into perspective Sajid Javid's decision not to repatriate Shamima Begum and other IS fighters. It is looking more and more like the horrible piece of political short-termism it obviously always was. Who would have thought this could happen? Syria seemed so stable.

One of the main arguments against Sajid Javid's decision on Shamima Begum was that it was spectacularly short-sighted. Contrary to what he said, it actually risked putting UK citizens at higher risk of danger (down the line) from IS fighters. This is primarily because the region is so unstable.

Would we rather IS fighters were: 1. brought back to the UK and dealt with in accordance with the law; or, 2. left in very unstable Syria, where they could quite conceivably break free from their current detainment, freely associate with other (well-trained) IS fighters and then potentially return to the UK (and other European nations) to do God knows what.

I'm in Turkey this week with work, and already seen a newspaper/propaganda stating how the Syrian people are going to reclaim there land. It is being framed as Turkey is helping to liberate the area so the 'real' people can return home. Never mind the small detail of defining what land belongs to who, just fit the narrative.

And yes of course the newspapers have crying children on the front to really sell how much they need to go home.

Quite depressing the fucking state of Spain just now, horrendous jail terms for Catalan politicians and violent police getting stuck right into the subsequent protesters.

Really disappointed in the EU, not a single peep from them about it.
