Second one is an unasked advance which would qualify as something Not Cool if the recipient didn't turn out to be ok with it.

It's probably best to play it safe and not kiss strangers by surprise.

A stranger is just a friend you haven't harassed yet.

They're not kissing him with affection. It's a probe before they invade and seize his land.

Or sexual assault, albeit at the very very mild end of the spectrum.

This is why I've largely been unsure about what to think about the recent reported cases of male fans kissing female reporters on the cheek.

I'm not offended by the very concept of it happening - it's a bit naughty, but it's far from being any kind of definable sexual assault. That said, I have no problem with anyone who thinks in general that it shouldn't happen (the groping that occasionally happens in these scenarios, of course, is a different story).

My only real problem is with the numerous hypocrites out there who claim to demand gender equality and yet believe that what happened to this South Korean journalist was harmless while what happened to Megan Batchelor was somehow unacceptable.

The MBN editors certainly saw the funny side of it with their editing.

He didn't roll around on the floor holding his face so it can't have been too bad.

If he turned around and kissed them back is that consent or harassment?

There's danger of a false equivalence here. Kissing a male journalist without permission is sexual harassment and even perhaps assault. It's equally unacceptable regardless of gender. But the 'harm' done is debatably very different, if not on an individual level, then a societal one.

@ZuluHero if someone doesn't want to be kissed it is assault. Just because someone kissed you once doesn't mean subsequent kisses are consensual

It's different because the female reporter was a defenceless girl who clearly wouldn't be able to fight off any assault, while the male reporter is alpha as fuck!
