Maybe you were expecting more. Maybe you associate it with a really bad experience. Maybe you got extra-annoyed by everyone aside from you declaring it a masterpiece, which made you extra-vigilant in your hatred. Maybe it just twigged something inside of you, and you can't forget that feeling even if other movies are probably worse in an objective sense.

Basically, it doesn't have to make sense, or be rational. But what is the movie you hate more than any other?

Mine (as I think I have mentioned once or twice) is Gran Torino. The context of it is that it was (at the time) touted as THE LAST TIME CLINT EASTWOOD WILL ACT IN A MOVIE. Neglecting to mention that he apparently had not hired any other actors for the movie. Or writers.

And it was terrible and I HATED it, not just because it was bad but because all the old people in the cinema were fawning over how instructive and deep it was when Clint realised that his Asian neighbours weren't all that bad (and made sure to say it out aloud, because subtlety). And because I thought it was going to be the last thing Eastwood ever did, wasted on some sub-Hallmark Channel bullshit.

    *cough*

Anyway as I said, it doesn't have to be rational. But what are your things that you hate.

    American Beauty.

It was rubbish and it smelled.

    The Crow.

I sat next to a Goth who quoted the lines as the movie took place.

Off the top of my head... Interstellar. It supposed to be a really serious, intelligent, emotional movie with some elements of hard sci-fi when it was actually an utterly moronic bore-fest where Matthew fucking McConaughey doesn't know what a black hole is before falling into a five-dimensional box and then love saves the day. Absolute idiotic shite, if it were a person it'd be a drooling vegetable. The space bits looked nice though.

I don't hate Edgar Wright's films, but so many people, including most of my friends, have such a hard-on for his annoying style that I end up getting really annoyed with most of the things he does.

Fight Club. Hated it, only seen it once but I think there was a Pixies song in it and that was the only good bit

I don't like to talk about it though so feel a bit bad now

    The Matrix

Complete shite masquerading as an 'intelligent' action film.

    Love Actually.

A rom-com that isn't funny in the slightest and pretty much every character is appalling, but particularly Andrew Lincoln's creepy cunt.

    The Revenant.

3 hours of interminable grunting with a plot that could have been covered in 45 minutes.

    And it won fucking Oscars.

It's a Wonderful Life. I hate how the main character puts the well-being of the town before his and his family's happiness. He also needs a lesson in how to run a business for profit.

I was baffled that that mumbling borefest was held in such high regard.

    It was tedious, aimless wank.

I was cheering the fucking bear on.

Sucker Punch is terrible, but I can't hate it because it does have a bit of "so bad it's sort-of funny".

I hope you mean the more recent Crash, not the old one (which caused that moral panic back in the '90s).

@Rogueywon watching the girls in Sucker Punch shoot the thousandth faceless goon just sent me to sleep.

And yeah, Cronenberg Crash is a fucked up masterpiece. I mean the inexplicable Oscar winner.

It's schamltzy as fuck, even for its time. The Bishop's Wife is a far superior angel-on-earth-at-chrimbo film.

How many of these films do people actually *hate*? Yeah, they are shit, but it's not like they are an Indiana Jones 4 or an exorcist 2 that get people viscerally angry.

Up - supposed to be a fun romp, but starts off with such a fucking heart wrenching gut punch that puts Grave of the Fireflies to shame, and then expects you to laugh and be cheerful the rest of the movie.

Interstellar - Genuinely one of the stupidest movies ever made. It would have been enjoyable if it hadn't pretended to be so clever. Tries to take itself seriously, then in the middle of the fucking mission they have to explain to the CAPTAIN OF A FUCKING SPACESHIP what a black hole is.

Atonement. Because fuck you, writer person (character) and false accuser of sex abuse. Fuck you.

And actually, fuck the author for thinking this counts as "atonement".

Can't really see a reason to hate that, to be honest. The title tells you what it is going to be about. You get a good feel for how it's going to pan out within the first few seconds. As far as doing what the director intended goes, it's a 10/10.

Unless the twist is there are only 12 lakes with one of them used twice, in which case 0/10 would not lake again.

Half of Christopher Nolan's career IMO.
