Yeah, but it suits him better than a 320. Blergh, 320, blergh. |

Registered 18 years agoCar stuff in the UK is so weird.
In NZ it was much easier you either had a Ford or a Holden and you were either a poof or a spazz. -
The BMW tourings are some of the (imo) very few estates that do still look very nice and sporty. Sure they're not as big as your Passats and what have you, but they do still have a better utility than a standard hatchback.
A few months ago I managed to fit a cross trainer (boxed up obviously) into the back, with space to spare and 2 passengers. You might not need it that often but you really appreciate it when you do. -

I agree that the normal V40 without the plastic looks better but I am tempted by the AWD of the V40 CC
The plastic bits around the bottom of the Volvo's makes them look real shitty -

I have a S5, and it's fucking great!
I have an a5 and it’s the best car I’ve ever had by miles. It’s a genius combination of limo/ animal. Only slight negative is that it’s disconcertingly wide until you get used to it.
though I have a Quattro tfsi and I don’t actually know if I want/ need more power -

Registered 16 years agoIt’s a shame Audi stick a silly S badge on their warmed up cars, and now BMW have followed suit putting an M in front of the 35 and 40i’s -
You can always pry them off with a screwdriver and go incognito. -

Registered 16 years agoHairdryer and dental floss, or just inspect the identifiers. I don’t even have the wanky M Sport trim indentifier badges on the wings of mine, but plenty of tools seem to like sticking them on the boot of their 320d -

I don't really have anything against Volvo, and Sweden is in fact where I want to move some day if I get the chance. I'm just afraid malevolent EGers will mock him based on owning a Saab or that Volvo, which would be a shame. I'd like him to get something which will leave him treated with due respect, like an automatic BMW
Classic anti Swede rhetoric from a German. I blame the Scanian War! Skånska kriget.

I looked at my long-term average speed the other day - 16 mph. It’s 90% stuck in traffic for me
Of course you do

They put M badges on diesels now, which I don't really get tbh.

Registered 16 years agoNah, most of them also fuck up the ride by firming up the suspension and sticking massive alloys with thin tyres on a car with a 2l, 180bhp tractor engine. -

Registered 18 years agoBit of a long-shot, but does anyone here own a Passat GTE? Starting to think about swapping in my current car, and a reasonably big hybrid estate would really suit the kind of driving I do. -

Registered 10 years agoPretty much decided on getting Volvo V40 T4 Cross Country.
Saw a white one yesterday, 60K (37k Miles) with great spec, memory seats, leather, rear camera, good stereo etc.
It hasn't been cleaned yet but seems in good nick and drives well.
I'd ideally like lower mileage but they start to get a lot more expensive
I'll go and see it again when it's ready but it's definitely a contender. -

Registered 16 years agoMileage isn’t really a concern on modern cars as long as it’s got a full service history. You can check online for routine replacements of parts for a particular model - new timing belt at 100k etc - to know if there’s any potential bills to expect soon, but other than that engines just run and run. Rather a high mileage that proves long steady runs at temperature than a low one that suggests short runs and cold starts -

No BMW 320i XDrive around here that I can afford btw, they only have 1-2 year old ones. -
