I sat through the Overboard remake. Along with its (oh so only tiny bit objectionable) 80s sexual politics they also considerately removed any charm and funniez the original had.

Is it weird that I always read this thread title in my head in Father Dougal's voice?

Not a film but "Baby it's cold outside" is pretty rapey.

Disagree. If you want to get feministy, it's a song about the expectations of society on single women (at the time) not having / acting on sexual desires.

The line about what's in this drink is 30s slang, and didn't mean roofies

Itís no More Than Words. Itís a song about a couple already seeing each other in secret, heís trying to get her to stay the night and sheís worried about what her family will think if she doesnít go back home

I'm confused. Is he saying PES is a bit rapey or that PES turns on a lot of women?

It's hard to judge a 30s song by today's standards, but I think it's probably more innocent than it sounds today. I always imagined that she wanted to stay, even keeps coming up with excuses to stay, but was torn because of social standards at the time.

Apparently "What's in this drink", one of the most contentious lines, was 30s slang for "I'm telling the truth" which was also used in movies around the same time. Don't know if that's true or not but I've read a few sources saying the same thing.

    if you only knew
How easy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me

Now I've tried to talk to you and make you understand
All you have to do is close your eyes
And just reach out your hands and touch me
Hold me close don't ever let me go
More than words is all I ever needed you to show
Then you wouldn't have to say that you love me
    'Cause I'd already know

More Than Words is sometimes rumoured to mean if you loved me you'd blow me but whenever I've looked it up the band interviews it's not supposed to be like that. I've assumed it's like Puff the Magic Dragon or the filthy character names in Captain Pugwash.

Saying you love me isnít enough, you need to show me physically

If we're criticising Extreme for anything (other than being a bit shit), why not their song Little Girls.

"Reach out your hands and touch me". Could mean a bit of a wank or penis touch through his skin tight jeans.

Don't get me wrong, I have little interest in defending the lyrics of wannabe sex offenders Extreme but I've never been convinced it's a blow job song.

Another band with a song about Little Girls. What the hell is wrong with these paedo bands? They make Motley Crue sound wholesome as the song Girls Girls Girls didn't specifically mention them being little.

It's the fairly common interpretation when someone says it's a dirty song. I think I first read it on something like The Guardian.

Extreme specifically mentioned 16th birthdays, ergo there's NOTHING wrong with men in their 50s still singing it today

Old enough to be her father
