Even at that age they hold all the cards.
I know right, at this rate a kid won't be able to cop a feel at a party until they're at least a politician or an assistant manager in retail.

He probably thought Ben Kingsley was Ghandi.

I'm fairly certain no one knew until it came up a few years ago.

That was my whole point. People were being put in brownface waaaay after it was deemed socially unacceptable to have anyone in blackface.

We all did at that age. There was no reason to think otherwise. At the age I watched short circuit I had never met an Indian person or even really engaged with the culture at all. I also had no reason to think Hollywood was racist. I doubt I even knew what racism was, really.

I only twigged because my sister told me when I first saw Short Circuit and then I saw Fisher Stevens in another film and I was like whaaaaaat? I had seen and been in contact with many Indian people though.

    JOHNNY NUMBER FIVE

You could tell he wasn't a real Indian because he didn't wobble his head when he talked

Seen some people comparing the new Joker and The Mask on the internet, and it got me to think. Everybody loves The Mask, including me, but the movie isn't trying very hard when it comes to moral lessons.

Also what do you mean "isn't trying very hard when it comes to moral lessons."?

Probably. I don't think many of the people who are talking about The Joker have even watched it. I mean, people were discussing it like they knew all about it before it was even out.

@Decks well, the protagonist is a loser who complains about his loserness all the time. Then he gets super powers that make him a hit with the ladies, kinda. But at the end of the day, the loser gives up his super powers and decides to be himself. The end.

Seems like a standard "be yourself" story, except that the Mask is clearly funnier, more charming, and overall a more fun person to be around. We are supposed to believe that the guy made the right choice, but the Mask never does anything truly morally reprehensible - it's only when the villain uses it that it does. Plus, it is the Mask who saves the day in the end. And the guy only gives it up after he's already managed to get the girl, which is a bit convenient.

These movies about "being yourself" never really worked imho, because there's usually a reason if people didn't like you in the first place. Maybe one should actually try to change.

The comparison is obvious. It's probably the most active discussion on the internet.

    First of all... eh?

Also doesn't the mask just amplify the wearers own personality? It's not like it's a different entity all together.
