I recommend Switchwatch YouTube videos and web site as a decent source of indie game reviews. They are perhaps a little generous at times but the reviews are fairly informative. I've added several games to my wishlist that I hadn't heard of before.

Oh yeah, that's right. He's done a lot of retro shoot em up reviews. Strikers 1945 is a good pick if you're looking for one.

@Graxlar_v3 mentioned it in the switch thread, he liked it. I played the mobile version a lot and it is fun. Not massively accurate but atmospheric.

I had a brief but intense love affair with it a couple of winters back on PC. It's very moreish.

Definitely. One of my favourite review channels actually.

And one of the makers of the channel frequents the forum too.

Surely playing the demo tells you that. My son has been playing the demo all week and really enjoyed it but he will have to wait for the full game as an expensive month. If ylu want the game digitally it probably won't drop lower for a long time as it has been pretty successful (I heard somewhere recently that it only just being overtaken by Smash Bros as top selling Switch game in Japan...)

    Hai guys!

Just bought myself a Switch today. And was wondering what games you lot recommend for a guy who has never owned a Nintendo device before.

Plan on using Switch for traveling mostly.

@Turbey I got a switch recently and really enjoying Mario Rabbids (but I do have a soft spot for turn-based strategy). Zelda is on order and I expect that to see me through until the summer!

Eh, it depends what you like. There's a lot of variety on there now.

If you like turn-based strategy (and something bite-sized enough that you can knock out some missions on public transport), then you cannot go past Into the Breach. It's perfect.

The holy Nintendo Trinity of Mario Kart, Zelda BOTW and Mario Odyssey is a good start. Zelda being essential.

Diablo 3 is great on Switch if you haven't played it elsewhere.

    Then go indie-riffic with:

    Into the breach
    Dead cells
    Vostok Inc
    Rogue Legacy
    Enter the gungeon

Buy games from different regions to save £££ www.esho.pw

Get a screen protector. Orzly brand.

    Sorted.

    Must buys:
    Mario Odyssey
    Mario Kart 8

    Seriously consider buying:
    Hollow Knight
    Zelda BOTW
    Celeste
    Dead Cells
    Stardew Valley
    Smash Bros Ultimate

    And then consider these:
    Into the Breach
    Mario and Rabbids
    Undertale
    Splatoon 2
    Picross S1 & S2
    Shovel Knight

    Also Great:
    Octopath Traveler
    Captain Toad
    Oxenfree
    Firewatch
    The Messenger
    Gorogoa
    Yokuís Island Express
    Sonic Mania
    Doom

Can folk suggest some stuff that warrants a replay & ain't ridiculously priced (not £50+ for old/other platform titles please!) I'm not having much success so far.

Here are some recommendations from me!

    High praise:

    Resident Evil Revelations 2
    Captain Toad
    Fast Rmx
    Mario Kart
    Hover
    Doom
    Everspace

Not for everyone but worth a look in my view:

Sonic Forces (just learn which levels are your favourite and then just play those from the worldview map)

Sonic Mania (personally I got a little bored after a while but itís definitely a cool game for a while)

Splatoon 2 (can be very intense but is very well designed)

Mario + Rabids (the music in this game is on a whole other level)

Pinball FX3 (tables are expensive but visual quality and performance is ridiculously good)

Grip (frame rate is a little low and the level design often throws the player out of bounds but otherwise fantastic)

Starlink (this game is obviously for a younger person like 12 or 13, but itís polished and smart with great mechanics)

Riptide Renegade (like waverace mixed with an old school ps2 racer - I played the previous game a lot on PlayStation and this version is much the same - worth watching a few YouTube videos to see if itís up your alley)

Urban Trial Playground (a cheapo version of Trials)

Video kid (cheap super basic fun game)

Darkest Dungeon is great, but it's a pure dungeon crawler. I think it's more of a roguelike than an RPG.

It really is great for short trips though, because you can usually knock out a dungeon in that time. Into the Breach is good like that too.

Anyone played immortal red neck? Looks like my cup of tea but not sure if worth the money
  • Deleted user 7 April 2019 09:17:05
    @mickerty

I've got it. It's ok but a terrible port.

Was it updated at all? Occasionally you get the odd port that has been rushed out, but has at least been patched up nicely. I'm guessing Immortal Redneck didn't see enough sales to confirm that.
