Analogue only and Sony are cheaping out by not giving analogue pads with it.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if they release them with memory spare where you could add a decent amount of games to it anyway.its not like the snes mini where a games a couple of meg.

Same, although I think the lineup is pretty great TBH, plenty of games missing (Parappa, Klonoa, Xenogears disc 1, Suikoden, Soul Blade/Edge etc.)

Ideally, if it was possible, Sony should have had an online setup and included a redeemable voucher that would allow users to choose twenty games from a selection.

Even if they were limited to filling out the initial twenty with first party games Sony have publishing rights for quite a lot of highly desirable back catalogue that would have lifted the excitement levels somewhat.

I mean, it's not impossible, but why would they waste their money like that?

Chances are that even the lineup was partially influenced by how many games they could fit in the system.

"Hey, we get one more game, do we make it Xenogears?"
"Nah, we only got 200MBs left, get a real small game"
    "Alright, Mr. Driller it is"

Shame the emulation is as flawed as it was on Vita/later PS3s, and it's a greater shame about the input lag. Was looking forward to playing some 60Hz versions. Well, I guess MGS without a DualShock isn't really all that worth it anyway :(

I just play all the psone games I want to on the vita now. Works fine for me and like how I can play a few classics on the move.

If this truly is a Vita TV chip in a new box, it'll be hacked apart within hours of release.

Everything about this seems completely half arsed. Had the same feeling when they announced it. Doubly so now they've shown it off a bit.

Oh well, at least they liked Jumping Flash and it still fulfills it's primary function of looking nice and gathering dust on a shelf.

I was excited when this was first announced and put down a pre-order immediately.

Then I saw the full line up games and thought it was pretty terrible. Too many classics missing and in its place, guff like Rainbow Six (PS1-analogue free edition). Thought about cancelling but held off.

Then all the reports started coming in saying it's pretty half-assed with poor emulation. I also wasn't too bothered about losing the analogue sticks at first, thinking many of the original classics never used them, but then find out games like MGS and RR4 used them to great effect. I haven't actually bothered cancelling yet, but its pretty much a formality at this point.

So here's some actual, underwhelming info.

    https://blog.us.playstation.com/2018/11/26/playstation-classic-the-miniature-ultimate-faq/

Nine out of the 20 games are based on the PAL version, so that's already 45% bad news.

Strangely, this is the US blog. Does that mean they get the PAL versions too? If so, the only way to run those games at 60hz would be through frame skipping. That doesn't sound right.

Don't HDTVs have to support 50hz as well as 60hz or is that just in legacy PAL countries?

But yeah, that's awful. Tekken 3 at 50hz...

@Psiloc that used to be the case, as far as I've heard. Old HDTVs in the USA didn't support 50hz. I'm not sure if things have improved since, though. And even if they didn't, surely Sony would rather use frame skipping to guarantee 60hz support in the USA.

Or maybe they just screwed up and copy-pasted the same article as the European blog.

Pretty sure a few Konami games were on the mini Nintendo consoles so Konami stuff isn't outside the realms of possibility. Not ISS Pro 98 specifically, though ;)

I'll tell you what I'm worried about though, and I genuinely think it's a possibility:

    50hz.

@Psiloc it's one thing to be worried about getting 50hz games here, which was always a very real possibility (unfortunately).

But I never thought the USA would get some 50hz games too. That borders on insanity.

Is it wrong that I still want to keep my pre-order and am quite excited about picking this up next Monday?

I'm quite excited about getting re-acquainted with RR Type 4 - I'm even thinking about getting the neGcon out of the loft for when the l33t h4x0rz inevitably get PSX->USB controller support h4x0r3d in.

Don't forget that there were quite a few decent 50Hz ports (e.g. full screen PAL) on the PlayStation. This could be a crude way of getting slightly higher resolution games into the HDTV era.

It's hilarious that millions of yanks are going to spend good money so they can play 50hz versions of 20 odd year old games.

Yeah, but Tekken 3 was not one of those, for sure. And neither was Resident Evil. And I'm not sure about Rainbow Six, but that game was already running at like 10fps anyway.

Underwhelming list. Tekken 3 is good one, as is Ridge Racer and FFVII.
But for me it should have:
FF Tactics, Gran Turismo, Ape Escape, Kula World, Tomba, Crash Bandicoot 2, Resident Evil 2, Driver, R-Type Delta, Sled Storm

It's just mind boggling. What's the advantage of using the PAL versions of those games? Some weird licensing thing?

Those games didn't have a language select either so it's not like they're thinking they can dump one version of the game on there and cover everybody.

Even the average Joe is going to notice Tekken 3 at 50hz.

They should just introduce PS1 support on the PS4 and pretend this thing never happened.

Ok, then they should introduce PS1 support on the PS4 and pretend this thing never happened, about six months after putting it on sale so that everybody's got theirs and stock has run out.
