    How dare you!

This is a man who spent 3 years at pillow University. With mattress masters.

He is informed, he has done extensive research on pillows and rice cookers.

I went on a little half day cooking course in Thailand a few years ago. When we were making the curry or whatever I asked "and how do you cook the rice?", she gave me this blank look like I was a fucking idiot and replied "in a rice cooker"

Sounds like the same woman who declared scornfully 'this is actually the one we make for white people' as the Thai curry paste she just made and gave me to try melted my face off and liquidised my insides.

Er yeah she did that to me also. Do you think that's just a general ruse in their industry? This was in Krabi, she was called Cookie (or Cooky, or Kuki, I don't know)

This was on Koh Samui. It must have been her sister running the local branch of Evil Cookery Schools.

As it happens I did buy one and return it. Perhaps I was too cheap to get the full benefit as I went for the thinner one, but it was too thin to provide any meaningful support or comfort, and the cooling effect was nice at first, but like any other pillow once I'd heated it up with my head, that was that. And in fact it seemed to retain the heat much more than other pillows, and you can't even flip it to the cool side because the gel is only on one side.

Not that I bleat about them, but I did try it, and it was shite.

    My god, an informed opinion!
Shame you didn’t get the correct size for you but if the cooling part of it didn’t work then it’s not worth it, there are plenty of good, supportive pillows out there.

What was the purity of the Technogel™ in that pillow? A lot of places are cutting the Technogel™ with goose fat these days as the price of Technogel™ ore has sky rocketed. Anything less than 75% pure and you're wasting your time.

Well, if you'd ever taken the time to visit a Technogel™️ mine (on the moon) you'd realise just how dangerous it is and why Technogel™️ ore is more expensive by weight than diamonds

That's the cover story! Apparently the toxicity levels in a rare moon mineral like Technogel can have very negative consequences to one's mental well being.

The shopping channel are adding a warning label to their supplies.

I'm not up on my Technogel jokes, but I'm assuming this is the new Ecosse gag?

And no, I don't mean like the ones he keeps in the cellar.

Let’s just say if you were going to spend £125 on a pillow, your only real option in that segment is Technogel

You are limited to only one Technogel pillow, with the gel only on one side, it's so powerful that if you were to stockpile enough you could isolate the Techno isotope and make weapons grade enriched Technogel - a single kilo of this is enough to freeze a continent to permafrost

    British knockoff Japanese/Korean rice cooker.

I've also got a Japanese rice washing rinsing bowl.

That’s where I got mine from, went with the Zojirushi. The timer function means I can sort it before work and come back home to it ready, and unlike the cheaper coolers it’s incredibly consistent and never scorches or dries out the rice. It cuts out a good chunk of waiting time if I just feel like a quick dinner after work. Good quality pot too with excellent non-stick so it takes seconds to clean; I’ve used it multiple times a week sonce early 2013 and it’s been super reliable.

Ooooh, let me get in on the rice wanker action!

I have this one, from Muji, only I bought it in Shanghai so it has Chinese writing rather than Japanese. It's a very lovely looking little thing.

Wasn't anywhere near the eBay price when I bought it though. I like consistent quality and MAXIMUM FLEXIBILITY in my rice cooking, but I'm not mad. :)

What's the difference between those ones and the 30 quid ones then?

    The rice is 15% ricier.

Better quality parts mostly from what I can tell. Used to have a cheap Aldi job, would tend to scorch the rice on the bottom. Timer function is really nice and the keep warm function works well. Also the non stick coating on the pot is thicker. It’s got a few different program settings and the one which takes the longest seems to do the best job with short grain rice.

Depending on what you use them for, possibly nothing. I had a bunch of no-mark ones in apartment rentals when I lived in China, and everything just felt a little ropier. It's like a shitty £10 Tesco toaster vs. something more substantial: they both toast bread, but pricier ones have more granular (heh) controls, consistent toasting, better ergonomics, longer lasting components, etc. etc.

In the case of the Muji one, though, it was just so damned pretty! Not a monolithic shitheap that looked like it had escaped from an early 90s disco. So there's that.

My Japanese gf wouldn't touch any ricecooker that is below 150 quid. So I guess price really does matter for these things.

This thread is mental. And I now want a rice cooker for the handful of times a month that I eat rice.
