@Slint1000 That's rather worrying, I can definitely get that time down further...must be my setup because I'm not that good a driver.

It's definitely beatable, it's just that it's difficult to get through the course when pushing it that hard.

@Decks I'm working on a setup right now to make the MG much easier to drive, it doesn't accelerate as fast but you can push it a lot harder through the corners than the one I set my previous fastest time with since it's a lot more docile and consistent through the corners.

Setup seems to work I got time down to 2.53.008 and I did remember to upload it this time. I've also put the setup info at the end if you want to have a go with the setup.

Not bad considering I use a gamepad. There's definitely more time to be had with the setup you should be able to see the many times I took it easy through the corners and leading into the corners. Right now that setup at least for me...there is an issue if your not careful of it oversteering mid-corner if you go to fast into a corner but other than that the 6R4 is rather docile and easy to control for me now but you realllllly can push it if you want.

Crikey, I'm back on this after a while away (blame Apex) and Monte Carlo is a big difference to how it felt in the original Dirt Rally. Icy bits feel really treacherous. Good stuff.

@dsmx I just tried your setup and couldnít get on with it at all. I guess thatís the thing about tuning, it all depends on your own driving style as to what works for you.

I went back to my own setup and finally got it under three minutes at least though: 2:59.798.

@Slint1000 It takes some getting used to but essentially you can power through every corner as you use the throttle to pick the line through the corner.

The thing is I liked the setup because I felt like I was in control of the car, even if the video makes it look like in places I'm not.

My driving style is to power through the apex of a corner especially on gravel simply because you get more grip when your on the throttle when you hit the brakes or you are completely off the throttle the car becomes unstable and tends to slide.

So the setup was me trying to increase the amount of time I'm on throttle, so if your driving it and not on the throttle be very careful.

Hmph. I was wondering what the hell you were doing with the Metro there. I went flat out almost all the time, cut corners aggressively, made only a few minor mistakes and the best I could do was 3:05. Below 3:00 seemed impossible to me.

Found out that my pad broke a little, pressing R2 down only registered as 89%. Changed throttle saturation, did another run and even with bigger mistakes I instantly shaved off 5 seconds. I did wonder why the Metro's toop speed seemed like 170 kph.

Anyway, the times stand, I lost.

@DrStrangelove That started happening to my pads as well, there's an issue with the trigger buttons wearing away the membrane they press on in the controllers. To fix mine I opened up the controller and put a bit of paper between the membrane and the trigger button.

    @dsmx

That's a good tip, thanks. But since I need the analogue triggers only for Dirt Rally 2, and thankfully it lets me adjust saturation so I can get to 100% after all, I'll stick with that until I may play another game that needs them and doesn't give me this option.

After completely losing my shit round Argentina I decided to try recalibrating the wheel to have lower degrees of rotation, it's been a complete game changer. On the career mode I've gone from fighting for podiums to being a clear minute or more ahead on every event. It also means I can use the handbrake much more reliably now.

Didn't work so well doing Group B at Monte Carlo though :D

Yeah I use my wheel with only 360 degrees of rotation. I know thatís not realistic but it makes turning feel a lot tighter for me.

In DR1 I eventually settled with 200 degrees which is apparently a pretty extreme setting. I guess it depends on driving style and the nature of the stage. Haven't tried it, but I imagine a low setting is good in Argentina and a high one is good in Poland.

Anything less than 540 is obscene.

and here I am slumming it with a pad...still didn't stop me from being surprisingly quick though.

Well that doesnít stop DrStrangelove from regularly beating my times either. I actually play a bit on both, especially when itís late because I tend to make a bit of a racket with my wheel apparently.

I'm finding it depends on the car more than the track to be honest. Anything modern or FWD works well lowered, but anything that is a bit more twitchy by nature I have to recalibrate back to normal. The Stratos in Spain on lowered degrees was absolutely impossible.

Got tier 3 in an Argentina daily challenge though \o/

v1.4 released today with mostly minor changes, but... there's an interesting sentence at the end of the patch notes:

Please note that a further update will follow in the next week, which will focus solely upon FFB Ė so if youíre wondering where that is, itís just around the next corner!

I hope they increase the vibration when you go over a cattle grid. I think we can agree thatís been nowhere near powerful enough.

The original Dirt Rally is £5 on PSN atm. Iíve roughly been following this thread and Iím not sure if itís worth the extra for Dirt 2 instead? Are those wheel issues sorted?

By all means get DR1 for £5, it's worth so much more than that. But yeah, an FFB update is coming, but honestly we don't know yet how it'll turn out.

It needs very little change to be great. The weight of the cars is great, it just needs a bit of surface texture detail and we're good. I'm hoping the length of time it's taken then means they're going to nail it.
