Thanks for setting up another event whoever it was. Will have a go tonight or over the weekend.

Those track packs are actually a very good price. I grabbed the game earlier and figure sure there's enough content to get my teeth into anyway(plus I picked up Grid at the same time).

I've set up a new EG2 championship. I've gone for as a change, Rally GT class this time. they're probably the most forgiving of the RWD cars.

No DLC again (in case any Game passers want to play).

3 Events, 3 days per event, Hardcore damage. New Zealand, Australia, and Poland

I'm going to practice using manual gears, so my times might be a little off...

@TheGreenYamo It doesn't take a lot of time to get used to manual gears and you will go faster once you're used to them because auto in Dirt 2 is rubbish and lets your engine go out of the power band way to often.

@dsmx I'm struggling a bit choosing the right gear, it's something else to concentrate on. I'm sure I@ll get the hang of it.

@TheGreenYamo As a rule if a race engine isn't screaming at you, you need to drop down a gear. They are tuned to give all the power in the top 2000-4000 rpm of the rev range depending on how high it can rev and if it is Turbo or NA.

@TheGreenYamo Jump in a car that has a gear change light like the 205, cant think of many others at the moment.

Also just baseline the co drivers corner number shouts, take it as a rough guess for what gear until you get used to it a bit more.

I've been practicing quite a bit on the group A events the last week, been slowly improving my times although I'm not sure specifically what I'm doing differently, maybe a bit smoother so losing less momentum. Might try switching to manual

So is RaceNet on this a bit borked? I've just lost progress in the monthly because it decided I wasn't signed in (even though the PS4 is still online, I can see my friends, etc).

    Damn.

Crap. Decided to take it a little bit more on the safe side so I would at least get to the finish. Went really well until this happened on the second stage. Terminal damage.

Oh no. I picked the BMW which was even harder to control than the Aston. Took it easy but still only just made it round the four stages. Ended up pointed in the wrong direction so many times! My time is so beatable, you just have to crawl round.

Picked the Porsche then crashed into a gate on the first stage.

I'm thinking powerful RWD cars and hardcore damage were a mistake. I'll maybe set the damage to normal for the next event.

I hate hardcore damage. I can't really be arsed walking on eggshells and driving super slowly anymore. So I get at least 5x roadside contact between two services, which means 3 punctures, which means I've got no spare tyres anymore and I give up. Happens in both 4WD and RWD, I think I've finished only one of the last 5 events because I always run out of tyres.

@DrStrangelove Yeah, I'll bin off hardcore damage for the next one. also, apologies for accidentally putting in the same stage twice in Australia.

Actually made it to the end of Poland, shame the game crashed in stage 3.

I had a strange game crash as well. I finished a stage and when it was trying to upload my times etc it came up with an error screen "connection failed, cant upload times, do you want to retry, quit to main menu, or cancel, but beware if you quit to main menu, your progess will be lost". So I retryed, and I cancelled back to the end of race screen and watched a replay, and then retryed some more, but finally gave up and quit. But I think it did save my progess because it then allowed me to load up the championship again and start the next race.

I think Racenet must be broken, because I am currently in second place in one of the championships!!1! (Clearly I should be in first).

By the way have you all tried out the Citroen C4 Rally car? I think it might have been one of the dlc cars. If you haven't, I highly recommend you do at your earliest convenience ;)

I've set up a new championship, R5 class, standard damage, 3 events, 4 stages. Only 2 days per event this time.

    Good luck!

Nice, although I'm going to our summer house (or what do you call a "vacation house" in english?) tomorrow so will not be able to participate in every event. There's a local rally that goes right by our lawn so I will be watching real cars instead :) Last year we had the Midnight Sun Rally going by, it's a rally for historic cars - I think they must be 30 years or older. So much fun!

    You beauty.

    Nice cars too!

This game is immense. If it had a better or flashier menu system and career layout, it would be in the top 5 racing games of the past 10 years, easily

Did the spain event. In the last sector on the last stage I started to think that "ohh no major mistakes this rally, now I only need to drive through the village and to the goal" and then blam! right in to the side of a wall in the village - double puncture... At least it wasn't that far from the goal so I didn't lose too many seconds I think.

    Lesson: Don't think, just drive.

It was stage 3 that I really mucked up. No major crashes or punctures, but ran off the track so many times, at a 21 second penalty a pop. My time is savage.

I crashed twice on the first stage, then got a puncture right at the end of the fourth (coincidentally, at the village.)

It went pretty well in-between then!

Server troubles for 2 of my 4 stages.

Update soon, hopefully the SteamVR stuff is a nice improvement.

Just has a disastrous run in Australia, big crashes at the beginning of the first and second stages resulting in two punctures. I had to retire.
I'm going to blame the fact I'd just been playing F1 2019 (free weekend on Steam, if anyone's interested), and somehow forgot how to play DR2...

We get Finland this week, who else is excited? It's probably the location I found the most difficult in DR alongside Sweden.

I crashed out on the very last bit "through narrow gate to finish", I went head first into the gate post at speed lol. Still, was enjoying the race.

Finland was tough wasn't it, lots of fast straights, easy to drift off line, and small mistakes are punished.

Looking forward to it though, can't be as tricky as DR2 Argentina!
