Does anyone find it tricky to actually win a race? I've been promoted to professional, and currently in the 3rd place after 3 races, but I've barely won an actual race, or even a stage, since the easiest difficulty setting. The last one I won was because everyone else near the top had a mechanical so won by default. I just seem to finish third a lot, which means I get promoted but it gets harder to win.

I find that I can only keep up with the leader's pace if I really push it, which usually means I crash out too often.

That's the thing about rallying, it's not about who's fastest on every stage but who survives with consistent good performance. Pushing it usually backfires, iirc i won most my career championships by keeping my 2nd/3rd-ish pace and watching them fall off the leaderboard because they were pushing too hard.

@DrStrangelove Makes sense, I think that's why it appeals to me, don't have to finish first every race for it to be fun. In the lower leagues the top 2 places tended to finish first/second in pretty much every race, which made it tricky. Seems to be a bit less predictable in Professional so far.

Did you check the rules? If you smash up your car in game they smash up your car in real life.

Iíve been playing this again recently. Iím starting to actually enjoy the RWD cars at long last after a year of having no idea of how to drive them.

Iím considering getting a Fanatec wheel. Doesnít look like Iím going on holiday this year so it seems like a practical way to waste the money I didnít spend on that.

It took a while but after crossing a certain skill threshold RWD cars went from being the most frustrating and hard to, if not most fun then at least as fun as the AWD cars. I thought Rally gt cars were impossible to drive for a long time, now if feel pure joy driving them. I still crash a lot but I think I know a little bit better why, which makes all the difference.

Bloody hell current EG stage 2 with the weather is abit hectic! I thought Sweden was gonna be really forgiving with the snow banks but as soon as you hit them the already tricky visibility is gone in the snow cloud. Great fun : D.

I just bailed after 2nd stage, will finish it on monitors in a bit. Sweden is too white for my cheap vr headset (um.. brightness doesnt help).

Out of interest are you guys making many major errors when you drive a track? I'm getting much better at keeping my car the right way up and intact but I'm not really adding much speed so wondering if I should start risking penalties more.

(on that note, I find it surprisingly sickening everytime I lose control and going flying into the pedestrians)

Ah how annoying I did two races thinking I could come back to finish the others. Forced to retire the event.

Caution is always to be treated with respect.

The main gain in time comes from carrying speed through the corner so try to judge the speed of the corner appropriately before you hit the apex and then accelerate through. Try reducing your speed into corners to tidy them up and learn where the acceleration point is.

Oh and I am marginally slower than Salrip for the most part but I do tend to make more mistakes than him too. When I tidied up the Spectator genocide I was much closer to winning.

Is there a way of me resetting the event so I can re run it..or is that lost now.

You can't reset an event. However it's odd that it was DNF'd in the first place because normally you can quit the game between stages and continue later. Unless your internet connection is down, but in that case it normally gives you a warning about that and that the event will be lost.

About RWD, my personal suggestions about learning it: in the Dirtfish area there's a gravel donut somewhere where you can practice infinite drifts without sweat, that helps a lot I think.

For further honing skills I find it surprisingly effective to drive Monte's ice sections with soft tyres. No trying to set times, just go slow with the goal of not crashing or spinning out. It's not easy but great for practising throttle feathering, counter-steering and weight/momentum management without pressure. Going back to normal grip scenarios after that, I was suddenly zooming through everything like never before.

    That bastard deer!

I actually practiced the first stage for this one to see if I could do better with more familiarity. Finally managed to get a certain 5 right after crest into my head only to be distracted at last minute, picking up a 16s pen!

Serves me right for calling Germany boring I guess!

@mudskipp I had the same penalty on that corner.

The setups often linked for those that are new.

I was recording the replay of the last stage, and instead of hitting Alt + F9 to stop the capture, I hit Alt+F4 and quit the game, so it's put me down as a DNF. I'm an idiot 😂

Overall, apart from nearly missing a couple of hairpins, I don't think I could've gone much faster. The kit cars work really well on asphalt.

Any suggestions for cars/ tracks for the next championship? I'll set it up as soon as this one is over tomorrow.

@KD cheers! I've been winging it driving wise but starting to notice the tyre marks on some corners are way off what I'm doing so that'll be handy.

I switched to third person view for Germany, seemed to make the speed and flat corners alot more manageable. Gotta admit it looks quite nice at dusk too.

    @TheGreenYamo
I'd prefer one of the dlc courses again as I've not played much of them at all still. If it's rwd or monster bhp a service station every 2 courses would be appreciated.. specially if headlights are required.., but tbh would be happy with whatever - thanks for setting this stuff up!

Probably worth avoiding Scotland just yet, it is harder than any other tracks. There are ditches on many tight corners and there are tree stumps all over the place. Loads of traps too.
