I had Surface Deg set to max for all these stages, its as expected and is one of the most extreme tracks in the game so never going to be an easy place.

Here's what I get to do in the settings, another page with assists off and hardcore mode.

I may set up a 4 day single rally after this if anyone wants to do Wales in hardcore mode with too many stages, should be repairing hell if you dont die between.

@KD yea it's the group B of roads.

I'd be up for that, my new approach to driving seems to incur less damage so interested to see how I get on. I almost miss the once frequent situation of having to drag round half a car with bits falling off!

I don't think that image link worked (viewing on mobile?)

I'm all in favour of removing assists, in car cameras only and hardcore damage as long as I doesn't mean i have to use manual transmission. I'm getting the hang of semi automatic but couldn't do a long rally with MT yet.

My driving style is fairly cautious (read slow) so I feel I have more of a chance on the longer events.

It has use assists or none at all, no picking which ones, it's a bit much unless everyone is in vr and/or using that view anyway.

Hardcore damage should be enough, it makes it different by damaging your engine due to bad driving, that will be a nightmare alone.

@KD if I go from 5th into 2nd at high speed will it damage my engine?

@KD - the reason why I wondered is that MT doesn't appear on the same menu screen as the assists so wasn't sure if it was counted as one.

Is the damage model in DR2 more lenient than DR1? I seemed to have a lot more issues in the first game than I do this. I've only ever lost my lights once or twice, and maybe 1 puncture, but that was on the first stage I ever did on Argentina and I hadn't realised what a death trap it was!

@rammy18 I think when it feels fast it often isn't, because then you're driving on the edge of your capability and small and big mistakes are bound to happen.

I am fortunate in the sense that framerates and better looking graphics is something I rarely notice or care about - don't think I've ever thought about the framerate in DR2. And I don't have time to enjoy better looking scenery when going 200km/h through the finnish forests! VR in DR1 really improved my times though, so much easier to know where to place the car in corners and such.
I hear you on the slow to go fast thing. Although sometimes I reckon I feel slow because, well, I am slow...

Far be it from me to offer you advice (I'm going to anyway) but I think you might be surprised by the difference frame rate can make, general consensus is it makes a difference in driving games

@KD I'm up for a four day Welsh extravaganza. Hardcore too, albeit my enthusiasm may wane when I tank it on the first stage and have to retire.
I vote for forced cockpit view, because I use it and it may be advantageous to me. I do not vote for manual gears, as I don't use them and it would not be advantageous to me.

So yeah, probably best if you go with that you want

That's the other screen, cockpit view is seperate.

Are you all sure? Nobody has mention any car classes yet.

All for hardcore damage. Maybe 2000cc class cars? I use Abs, manual gears and bumper cam for a clear view out front.

As for the latest event I'm currently 2nd I believe but had a nightmare on the last event finishing with a puncture.

A gruelling wales rally with hardcore damage etc sounds like fun, count me in!

I vote to not have forced cockpit cam though. I feel, when playing on tv, bonnet cam is the one that makes most sense, not wasting screen space on things I don't look at (like the driving wheel).

Edit: not sure if I use any assists actually, must take a look nexttime I fire up the game.

Maybe someday I'll set a shorter event with forced cockpit and slower cars, this is a challenge already and good to show off damage and no assists in cars with some grunt.

I feel forced to go the Cossie even tho I dont have a 7th gear on my setup.

@andytheadequate I'd encourage you to dive in with manual gears, I tried semi auto for abit and it seemed the worst of both worlds to me, the car would only stay in a lower gear I wanted for a brief moment and I felt like it took more fiddling with gear changes than full manual where you can just listen to the car and sensation of speed.

I like how you can use lower gears to offset for poor road position into a corner, if I know a 3 is already going wrong I can stay in 2 but couldn't do that in semi auto.

Should have to post a pic of your car at the end of KDs Wales special

Anyone find it hard to see the road and edges in snowy stages? Not sure if it's my old TV or not

I had one or two moments, on ascending turns, but other than that no issues. Playing on a year old OLED

I'm on an 8ish yo Finlux. (Finnish luxury).

Judging by how it handles dark bits I reckon it's probably the TV struggling. I'll be blown away by the modern tech if it ever does give up

The lcd panels in my Dell Visor do the same, all I can say is do a bit of messing around with the brightness (ingame) and hopefully its a bit better.

I had a relatively slow run through the first two stages and was just about getting the hang of it towards the end.

Anyone got the Colin Mcrae DLC and tried to obtain the Pedal to the Metal trophy/achievement? Set a time of 7 minutes or faster on Newhouse Bridge, in the SUBARU Impreza S4 Rally car. I was 10 seconds of the pace after a few runs in time trial but I know I'll try it again.

1st into the last stage (albeit with an eroding lead). Pumped, ready to go....nightmare. Ended up beached on the snow after ignoring a 'caution' warning. Idiot. Stupid fucking game...

Cant complain about my run in Poland, not the fastest but didn't get a single time penalty for first time on this set up, spent a lot of time just in 3rd gear.

I'll set up the Wales run this week to start on the weekend after Poland finishes, may extend it to a week.

@KD are you going for group A?
I might get some practice in. Wondering if I'm just gonna blow up my transmission with the habit of dodgy gear changes I've developed.
