I... it's making me very cross so far.

Thought the demo was decent. We've now played 8 games of coop and won 3. All by default/connection issues.

Finding it really boggy in midfield, the players bunch together massively. Passing seems off. Shooting took some getting used to because you now have to hold the button longer (it works, it would just be good to be told that sort of thing coming from 1200 games of 17/18).

I'm fairly sure I moan at the start every year, but yeah this is taking a while to click.

Would be interested to hear how it performs on Switch this year. Last year was really good but I'm still pissy about them not implementing friend play online. Cunts.

Reviews are up. IGN savaged it with a 5.4 but he mostly seemed pissy about it not being as good as the other versions.

Said it played similar to 18 but now you can play against chums online so Iíll probably pick it up.

@macmurphy I thought 18 was great on the Switch. Like really good. But I hadn't played a Fifa since 13 or 14.

Only played the demo so far but to me it seems a lot more different than what others are saying - especially with as binky saying, more carnage in a busy midfield.

It's not as easy to score from miles out either - the kids will hate it :)

    @THFourteen

That wasnít the Switch version mate. They said they would look at the Switch version closer to launch in the comments.

Like I said reviews are up, just go metacritic and have a look. It was averaging around 80. Seems like a very tolerable game of football, even more so if youíve not played for a while and havenít played it on superior hardware.

Looking back at that itís not like the Switch version is going to be a recommended if the others werenít. Itís more a case of they havenít looked at how well it runs, what itís missing, how it does in relation to the competition.

The Switch doesnít have a surfeit of sports games, I can only really think of the NBA one so it probably fares slightly better in comparison to the competition. Thereís also a chance it plays slightly different with its own engine and maybe reviewers will prefer it. No idea, anyway itís definitely not worse than FIFA 18 and thereís no PES so if you like football itís a no brainer.

I can play the full fat version on my GPDWin2. Albeit at 30fps, but it does play fine (based on experience of the demo).

That was £550 well spent :-D

Absolutely all over this, FIFA18 was probably the best football game I'd played since Pro Evo 5 on PS2, and this includes a fucking no rules mode.

Best is obviously my opinion but it is certainly the most fun I've had with a football game anyway since then.

There you go. Nintendo Life gave it a 7 but say make it 8 if youíre new to game. They feel shortchanged by limited upgrades from last year but itís still the best football game on Switch.

Interestingly the bug where itís too easy to score overhead kicks in other versions isnít here. And of course you can finally play online with your mates which was a bizarre oversight from last year.

Bought on the XBX. I think it plays like ass. It's terrible infact. It's a pity pes presentation and modes are lacking as the core gameplay is a million miles apart from this. Kind of wish I hadn't gone digital now, but I do gameshare and my lad will get some time in so it's not all lost.

Switch to manual passing and switch off some of the other assists.

Iím really enjoying this so far, you can feel the weight of challenges etc. and the gameplay feels much more fluid and smoother compared to 18.

Interestingly, i played a couple of games on the way to work this morning @ 30fps (thats all the Win2 can manage), and it was a MUCH better experience.

Reminds me of the difference between switch handheld and docked last year. Docked was a fast pace mess, handheld was a lot more decently paced.

Might get used to this after all...

It's not that bad and playing single player is definitely more enjoyable than PES. It needs a tidy up especially with regards to the side foot shoot bug and the timed shooting is a bit shit. I do enjoy the slower pace though but it's brought back the horrible ping pong passing that the faster paced versions got of rid of.

I must admit that I fucking hate the Frostbite engine and it really doesn't work for a football game.

@Frogofdoom I think Fifa 18 was the same until they discounted it, but who's going to pay 50 quid for a barebones improvement to last year's game? Its a strategy that has never really worked on Nintendo consoles. Not with games with yearly cycles, anyway.

I think youíd have to say the demographic that buys FIFA doesnít seem to be quite the demographic that just buys a Switch, and Iím sure anyone with another console will go for the superior versions.

Apparently VGChartz is a bit shit but it reckons they sold at least a million copies. There isnít much competition on Switch and I imagine that a lot of people picked up 18 after the price drop.

Itís true though, if youíre the kind of but that buys FIFA annually youíre probably not buying the Switch version. I imagine a few people will just want a local MP game of football and stick with 18.

A few of my friends have bought 19 and they love it though. I think, if youíre not a series regular or donít have a more powerful console, itís still a very fine game.

I held off from 18 and will buy this for online against friends; not sure Iíll ever buy another one though.

    @macmurphy

Exactly. I bought FIFA 18 as a very casual footie fan and it's pretty good. I'll only buy another version if they improve the single player career mode.

My cousin bought this on my PS4 account whilst he was pissed up and staying at mine over the weekend (made him pay £40 for it, not bad for £20).

Love the amount of options, the feel, licences, cups, stadiums etc.

The on-pitch stuff is pretty gash though - passing is ridiculous and everything seems far too fast. It's such a cliche but PES destroys it on the pitch.

I don't really agree. Pes isn't very good either imo. Especially on default settings.

Both games need to be really tinkered with to be half decent. On the default settings both games virtually play themselves. Pes needs to be on pass support 1 at the very least, whereas fifa needs to be on semi assisted for passing/shooting before it feels like you are actually controlling whats happening. It needs to be on slow too.

Player individuality is better on pes, but every single team plays the same now (which never used to be the way), fifa has pes beat in this regard. The new tactics system is surprisingly good, and makes it feel like a 'scout next opponent' option should be in career mode.

My pes experience does only go from the demo, but for me fifa is better and I'm normally a pes guy.
