If you were you wouldn't want a Switch preloaded with Minesweeper and tetris.

The common denominator in all of those discussions is that they're being driven by people who, in the most eloquent way I can describe, are cunts.

Or love their product / media and are passionate about it which I'd rather than the usual dull british attitude although obviously that doesnt extend to football fans :)

I mean, if you're passionately pro a certain console or game, that's fine. Express your positivity.

But when people just piss on what they don't like/have, that's when I tune out.

I don't go to their place of work and knock the dicks out of their mouths.

Are you somehow suggesting that they wonít be big sellers? What is your point?
Kids will see a fun game where Mario can batter the shit out of Pikachu and want it.
They wonít think ďhold on, I better check how old this IP is before I decide if Iím interestedĒ.
I don't think Nintendo as a brand, Pokemon or Smash have as much juice as people think.

Nintendo and it's IP's are held in high regard by people over a certain age. To anyone under 20 it's just a another console.
I'll be shocked if the Switch and Smash and Pokemon don't sell shitloads at Christmas. Switch, Mario, Pokemon, Splatoon seem hugely popular with kids, no idea why you think otherwise.

Yeah. Iím agreeing with the protected ursine.

I think Smash maybe isnít as popular here as it is everywhere else - it kills it in the States. Pokemon does gangbusters on whatever format you release it for.

    They will do huge numbers.

Its an opinion its not better or worse unless you're better informed than the other person but much like assholes everyone has one and such splendid use of the c word, how primary school.

And sadly Eurogamer's orginal opinion has proven to be absolute pants...

I might be wrong, Pokemon is certainly recognisable and has some mileage left. Will shift some units

Splatoon and Mario aren't that exciting to kids. Fortnite and PUBG games is where the big money and the audience is.

@Load_2.0 Battle Royale is certainly where the big revenue is at the moment, but it is a bit of an odd comparison. Surely the only thing that matters is that a product makes profit and sells well in comparison to its direct competitors.

All five Smash Bros have sold more than 5 million units and it is the third best selling fighting game franchise of all time.

I thought of Fortnite as it's now running both on Android and IOS that seems to be the future of mobile gaming.

Could be that they shift a load of consoles this Christmas with Smash and Pokemon, longer term though they are going to need more to keep sales going.

That's true of any console though. Admittedly Nintendo's history of support isn't the best, but they are not unique in that respect. All three console manufacturers have had periods like that. Microsoft right now and Sony at the beginning of most console generations.

From my experience of being a dad to an 8-year-old boy, Mario is still pretty big (or at least is with him and his mates).

It's the YouTube generation - They watch Stampycat or Squid something or over, and they play all these games (Mario/Minecraft with Mario skins/Splatoon) and know all the characters.

The above can also be said for the other consoles as well though, I'm sure.

The Fortnite battle royal juggernaut is seriously slowing down. Or at least that's what I see with my kid, his mates, and others' kids. None of them are interested much in Battle Royale now. The map needs some much bigger overhauls or game mechanics.

Every 13 year-old I know is turning their focus to COD (if parents allow it) and looking for the next fun game. I think Smash could be that game. My son and his mates still play Mario Kart. They're not so much sold on Mario as a character but on the playability and game mechanics that Nintendo does so well. I can see Smash going down very well with the Youtuber generation.

Back to gloat......gloat......gloat...................gloat gloat gloat 👍

According to data from industry-tracking firm The NPD Group, the Switch was officially the best-selling games platform in the US last December and throughout 2018. The system did so well, it not only outsold the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but it also managed to have the best December of any system this generation.

And some were saying 2018 was a weak year for Nintendo. Imagine how 2019 will be with the already confirmed games. Switch is absolutely unstoppable. Great to see Nintendo on top again
