Movie (or TV/book/videogame) "villains" that you sympathise with / want to be successful

I shamelessly stole this from the AV Club, but thought it would be a fun discussion topic here.

Of characters in media who are meant to be villains, are there any where you look at them and think "hrm, actually this person has a decent point"? That or you want them to succeed in their plans?

I'm not thinking of "antiheroes" like Tony Soprano, Walter White etc. where you have some measure of sympathy because they're the main characters of their shows. More outright baddies that you have a different opinion about.

In Game of Throne's Tywin Lannister is a despot, but by all historical accounts he effectively ran the country of Westeros when The Mad King went, well, mad. And he ruled it successfully, overseeing the longest time of peace the continent had known.

In Joe Abercrombie's First Law universe, the "big bad" Khalul (who hasn't actually been seen yet) is by all accounts if not good, at least no worse than the "good" magi Bayaz, who is an magnificent, manipulative, hypocritical cunt..

In the animated series The Legend of Korra the 3rd season antagonist is an anarchist who wants to destroy the monarchy and bring power to the people. Hard not to like him. (and he's voice by Henry Rollins, which is kinda cool).

In James Cameron's Avatar movie I was totally rooting for Quatrich and the humans. Quatrich was good to his men, kept his promises to them and seemed to care about them. Much rather be on his side than the poncy blue aliens.

Hans in Die Hard. Every time I watch it now I want him to get away with it.

Tom in Tom & Jerry. Hate that little mouse.
Willie Coyote isn't even supposed to be seen as the real bad guy is he?

My daughter supported the step-mother in Snow White, from the first time she watched the film aged about 4. Forget "The Little Mermaid 2" or "Lion King 2", what she really wanted was a feature length spin off about the Evil Queen.

She is 13 now, and still finds herself compelled to be contrary. I reckon she was just born that way.

Oh. And any movie with big worms. Dune, Tremors. Tremors 2. Tremors 3. The remake of Tremors.

    I sympathise with the worms.

De Niro in Cape Fear. Itís really only when he gets rapey that you lose sympathy for him. For most of the film youíre on his side.

The dinosaurs in any Jurassic Park.

The Aliens in any AvP. Not in the regular ones, though. They are proper cunts.

+1, plus the little cunt committed credit card fraud while staying in that hotel in the sequel and got no comeuppance.

As I get older, I find that I'm sympathising more with the parent/authority figure "bad guys" in old teen comedies. Like, the baddie teacher in Ferris Bueller's Day Off is a bit of a creep, but as a counterpoint Ferris is a smarmy prick that actually is skipping school. Dude's just trying to do his job.

I'm assuming that's a weird euphemism for wanking
