Many years ago I got tangled up with the wrong crowd. They were bringing large shipments of "substances" in from abroad via boats. Coming in to Gammon Head in South Devon mostly but would move about regularly to avoid detection.

I wasn't involved directly at the start but ended up spending more and more time on the water until I was actually captaining one of the ships.

Time passed and I grew fond of the sea. I spent most of my days out there. I developed a taste for crustaceans.

I was arrested by the military police once. I was waiting for my dad to pick me up from the cinema and they turned up and asked what I was doing 'loitering suspiciously' and didn't believe me. They took me back to the guardroom and put me in a cell and left me there.

Turned out my dad - who was running late - rang them up and asked them to do it. He and they thought it was hilarious. I didn't so much.

usually at 3 a.m. on sunday Mornings after a hard night out I ring the bell at the local prison to ask if they could take me in. I then explain, that I already paid for the room in advance due to the high amount of taxes I pay. They always have a weird look on their face but evetually give in when I tell them how stressed my life is, and that I could really do with a nice and quiet place to get a good undisturbed hours of sleep in. They got good breakfast too. I would like to spread the word, but tripadvisors for some reason don't have them listed.

This I going back nearly 30 years...
One Sunday morning I was having a pleasant time with a lady friend in bed when there was a knock on the door. It was the police come to take me away for a spell, for a continual non payment of a fine for possession.
I really was young stupid and skint back then. Not a lot has changed.
So I explained to my friend the situation, and was outside the house with a copper's
hand on my head as I got in the police car.
Then a little voice called down from the bedroom window..."I'll pay it!"
I wonder how my life could have changed with a spot of bird aged 18? Maybe tattoos and more bum sex.

I did a night in jail in Newbury around the time of the bypass protests (remember "Swampy" and all that)

Won't go over the whole story, but I had only gone down to see if I could meet Julian Cope.
