So the final issue has been announced.

To be honest, I'd been considering cancelling for a while - their emphasis on multiplayer online games seemed incongruous for a print magazine and they weren't able to get the in-depth articles that a print magazine needs as a differentiator.

Still, all the best to the crew and I look forward to the last issue.

I stopped buying games magazines when CVG closed. I always liked how they took the piss out of games.

I get PC Gamer delivered to my door every month.

I actually quite like reading it even though there's not necessarily anything new in there.

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did after Future took over. Not my favourite multi-format magazine (CVG and Arcade say hi) but it had more personality than Edge so I always bought it when looking for something to read.

The only magazine I buy these days is the odd issue of Retro Gamer.

It would have been amusing to see them absorbed into Edge, then I could observe the quandry of the hate Edge but love Games TM camp.

It's not actually that outlandish, it happened in British comics, a plethora of 'boys' titles targeting niches such as war stories, thriller stories, Sci-Fi,fantasy tales horror shrunk down as the ailing titles were absorbed into the healthier ones, with a small fraction of the stories and characters finding a new home. In the end, much like in Highlander there could be only one and by the close of the 80s only 2000 AD was left.

I never even knew it happened.

It's right there in the WOS archive though, I guess I never noticed since I was an Amiga kid and the Spectrum was long absent from the spotlight by 1992.
