@Armoured_Bear Agreed on this, I'm thinking a Blue 12 Pro. The bare cases are pretty decent..

I have a Caudabe Sheath for my iPhone 11 Pro Max. I really like it - slim and slightly textured. I’ll be getting a new one whenever I upgrade to a new phone.

@ozthegweat The Pro models also have 6gb of RAM while the non-Pro ones stay on 4.

Neat. I bought a refurb XS Max earlier this year after the touch module on my X started going funky, but I find it too big, so the 12 Pro will do just fine. Got £385 from Music Magpie locked in with their "10EXTRA" code (added £20)…

Apparently, surround sound support is coming to HomePod, either in a mono or stereo setup.

Is this as stupid as it sounds, or am I not getting it?

The HomePods have ‘spatial’ sound reproduction baked in so I assume they will offer an atmos-like spatial sound thing, bouncing sound off walls and ceilings and whatnot.

Can’t see how you’d do it with just one but I bet you’d get something decent out of a pair either side of your telly.

Surround sound from single 360 firing speakers has been a thing for ages. Yes, it's not as detailed or precise as dedicated individual surround speakers, but it's stupidly impressive when setup right. I have a soundbar that does full Atmos on its own simply by bouncing off the ceiling and walls, and it's great.

It may also point to them moving further into that market. Sell your shares in Sonos.

Willing to bet this is the case, especially with the spatial audio stuff in AirPods now. Also combined with the lidar scanner stuff they're throwing into everything and you can easily picture this being a big thing for AR. There's a relatively good chance their next big new product will be some kind of AR headset or glasses.

Couple of £99 minis either side of the telly, job done. Cheaper than most dedicated sound bars of decent quality

Surround sound only works with the regular HomePod.

While such a setup would be quite easy to setup, it would only work with the Apple TV but not with other devices plugged in to the TV, or with TV apps for that matter.

I still feel that for homepod to be successful they should do something with Siri. I can’t remember the last time I’ve asked her anything.

Still not convinced... HomePods don't have a front, how would they know which of its 7 tweeters is positioned towards the sides? Also the tweeters are placed in a circle, firing outwards, so no reflecting sound from the ceiling.

Ah, quite pricey then with regular pods. Did the rumoured Apple television die away?

They really need to just improve HomeKit. That Alexa works with virtually anything that even vaguely supports zigbee or z-wave, whereas Homekit supports about three devices in total is just shameful. Yeah, you can use third party stuff like Homebridge to fill that gap, but that first party support is so bad is denting it severely. If it weren't for that I'd retire my Echoes in a quick minute.

It has spacial awareness so knows where the middle of the room is based on acoustics. I'm also presuming they'll tie into the iPhone location awareness stuff like the AirPods do.

@Your-Mother Apple devices working together with stuff from other companies, good luck with that.
I've always wondered how Siri handles English accents. Because it's pretty bad in Dutch, but I always figured that's just because there's only 23 million of us.

It's audio gear, I think you're supposed to just wave your hands and say it's magic.

Looks like I didn't have any problems getting a 12 Pro just now. Delivery 10-12 days, I wasn't expecting that.

Though that's probably the first iphone I've ever got just as it went on sale.
