Registered 16 years agoNeat. I bought a refurb XS Max earlier this year after the touch module on my X started going funky, but I find it too big, so the 12 Pro will do just fine. Got £385 from Music Magpie locked in with their "10EXTRA" code (added £20)…

Registered 10 years agoApparently, surround sound support is coming to HomePod, either in a mono or stereo setup.
Is this as stupid as it sounds, or am I not getting it? -

Registered 16 years agoThe HomePods have ‘spatial’ sound reproduction baked in so I assume they will offer an atmos-like spatial sound thing, bouncing sound off walls and ceilings and whatnot.
Can’t see how you’d do it with just one but I bet you’d get something decent out of a pair either side of your telly. -

Registered 5 years agoSurround sound from single 360 firing speakers has been a thing for ages. Yes, it's not as detailed or precise as dedicated individual surround speakers, but it's stupidly impressive when setup right. I have a soundbar that does full Atmos on its own simply by bouncing off the ceiling and walls, and it's great. -

Willing to bet this is the case, especially with the spatial audio stuff in AirPods now. Also combined with the lidar scanner stuff they're throwing into everything and you can easily picture this being a big thing for AR. There's a relatively good chance their next big new product will be some kind of AR headset or glasses.

While such a setup would be quite easy to setup, it would only work with the Apple TV but not with other devices plugged in to the TV, or with TV apps for that matter. -

Still not convinced... HomePods don't have a front, how would they know which of its 7 tweeters is positioned towards the sides? Also the tweeters are placed in a circle, firing outwards, so no reflecting sound from the ceiling.

Registered 5 years agoThey really need to just improve HomeKit. That Alexa works with virtually anything that even vaguely supports zigbee or z-wave, whereas Homekit supports about three devices in total is just shameful. Yeah, you can use third party stuff like Homebridge to fill that gap, but that first party support is so bad is denting it severely. If it weren't for that I'd retire my Echoes in a quick minute. -

I've always wondered how Siri handles English accents. Because it's pretty bad in Dutch, but I always figured that's just because there's only 23 million of us. -
