How can they go from scoring 5 with apparent ease, to nothing..?
    I'll never understand football.

My Dad fucking hates Sterling. To the point where we're watching completely different games.

It's hilarious, he's a lunatic. Sterling is immense. Obviously.

Yeah, it's definitely that but it's weird why it's so pointed towards Sterling. He has no problem with Ian Wright and Heskey and his profligacy never moved him to words.

    Very strange. Mad old sod.

Every year you're absurdly optimistic about England and every tournament they're shown up as clueless chumps by actual decent teams.

Such a terrible thing, being optimistic.
So much better to be a clever, miserable sod that can tell everyone you told them so later on

Also we made the World Cup semi final, which somewhat validated that optimism.

And lol at the idea I wouldn’t have that cunt on ignore.

    Meh, it was funny.

I’d be interested to hear an example of a better international front three. Obviously Argentina on paper but somehow never in reality.

I agree. Change our keeper(to who, I have no idea. Pope, at a push), tweak the defence and midfield as I think we have the players in the squad (if we add Foden as well), we just need the right balance and I think we can give any of the top teams a run for their money next year

Butland looked good when he was in the PL. Needs a move.

Nowhere near good enough in midfield or at the back to be any sort of threat at tournaments. You can't concede 3 goals against Kosovo and expect to be anywhere near lifting trophies.

The semi was an anomaly and a lot of good fortune. Yet because of it we're probably going to go right back to that toxic, post 90's period where nothing they do is going to be seen as good enough because people's expectations don't meet up with the reality of the team's actual abilities.

We're basically Liverpool before they signed van Dijk.

I'm just realistic. I've really enjoyed watching England under Southgate, it's been a breath of fresh air and the attitude and expectations from the fans and the media were all grounded firmly in reality and the team has just been able to get on with it with everyone behind them. Then we got the semi-final, which was a great achievement but it was also very, very fortunate and not quite representative of where we're at if we're being honest with ourselves.

Caught the last bit of the Bulgaria game and the chest thumping and the looking down on opponents was back in full force in commentary. Supporters are getting carried away with themselves again and the players are going to end up burdened with expectations that are simply way beyond what they can actually accomplish.

What makes me laugh but annoys in equal measures is the way a lot of people will now treat last nights result as a catastrophe because we let in 3 goals against Kosovo.
Any other nation with a similar result would not give a shit, shrug it off and move on to the next match. But not us. It will be dissected in the national press, fans will overreact and say “so and so is a disgrace, never play again” etc
Some fans are only happy when they can play pundit and tell us why England are so rubbish.

I think what people don’t recognise is International football isn’t the same as club football. It’s a sprint, not a marathon. The best team doesn’t always win. Luck plays a huge factor. If you look at any cup winning team there’s usually loads of ‘anomalies’ - easy draws, lucky pens, freak accidents etc.

Generally what you need at International level is a few super talented players, a great team spirit and a lot of luck. And, perhaps most importantly, a fan base that doesn’t take more pleasure in the prospect of shitting all over its players than they do of actually winning stuff.

There’s a chicken and egg there. I don’t know if it’s the media making us cynical cunts or if they’re just meeting our needs.

Are you sure the Italian, Spanish, French, German or Belgian press would shrug off a performance like that?

I don't think it should be over analyzed and delved into too much, but I do think it should be accepted for what it is. Last night was an entertaining as fuck game of football, and after what we've had to endure over the last 10-15 years or so that's a good thing. The forward line will give us plenty more of those games over the next few years, but going against any team competent enough to be able to stifle our attack and take advantage of an average midfield and defence is going to put us firmly as second favourites.

Also, just seen that Wenger has gone out and said he tried to sign Sancho when he was younger.

He just has to be self aware that he's a meme at this point.

I really don't think that second half should be treated as anything other than an anomaly. It was 5 -1 at half time, game was over. Just no one told Kosovo.

England switched off. Let's not over analyse it
