Except this time of course we're paying for the privilege of Nintendos shitty online service. Had about twenty games and I would say 18 of them had bad to severe lag problems, to the point where they ruined the game. So yeah. Enjoy that.

@INSOMANiAC I take it you are in the UK. Were the other players European based too? Or were you playing people from half way across the world? I might hold off a few days before taking the leap if it is that bad though as I won't be playing locally with anyone.

@TommyUnderwear that's the thing it's hard to say at the moment where the other people are as obviously not many others have it, that's why I gave it the benefit of the doubt for a few games, but at least three people in the UK on my friends list have it and it should be connecting me to the people who are in this country. Even if it isn't, the lag is unacceptable so it shouldn't connect you to anyone above a certain ping. I don't know if you've played on 3ds where it's like a slideshow, well it's like that half the time. It's not always as bad, at times it's just 'a bit shit' but I've had exactly one game where I would say it was half decent, and even that had the odd bit of judder on it.

It's just unacceptable in this day and age to have such an utterly wank online system. Its a real shame because the games fantastic. Theres always the hope that it'll all be miraculously solved by tomorrow and that I've been connecting to people on the moon, but I know Nintendo and I'm not holding my breath.

2. The patch is out, everyone who is playing the game online must have the patch installed in order to play.
3. The game is out because people have it in their hands and the servers are on. It may not be the launch day, but it's out there.

Haha. Broadly agree point 1. I dunno, Mariokart and Splatoon and Arms are mint. As is third party stuff like Rocket League.

I don’t doubt it’s a bit shit now but I’d like to think they could sort their lives out these days. It is Ninty though....

I just spectated a couple of games from Japan and they don't appear to be lagging, so maybe it is connecting me to people in outer Mongolia

It depends on what they use to compensate for lag but, for sure, nothing can compensate for shitty WiFi connections.

Lag in fighting games isn't generally down to 'servers' it's usually down to some idiot sat a mile away from his router or using a 4G dongle

Seems ok online after a handful of games. It’s not silky smooth but it’s playable.

@mangojoe I've had a few laggy games today but nothing like the state of yesterday, theres still problems but they aren't as bad. It's a case of 'if this was anyone else there'd be a shit show' but as its Nintendo,and given the state of the last one, this probably qualifies as 'good'

Very probably, but that's a poor effort when other sites regularly manage 'review in progress' type things. To not even have some kind of impressions article up on launch day just seems weak.
