Registered 5 years agoApparently The Outer Worlds will be 4K enhanced for the Xbox One but the PS4 Pro version isn't getting any enhancements at all and will run at the same 1080p resolution as the base console -

Registered 9 years agoWhere as Sony constantly release their exclusives on other platforms. I know this was never planned as an exclusive but ms could have easily stopped the ps4 version when they bought Obsidian. They also embraced cross play before Sony and have allowed one of their exclusives to appear on a nintendo console. Bit weird to moan there isnt a pro patch tbh, it should allow for a more solid frame rate on the PTO at least.

Registered 12 years agoMaybe there weren't going to be any enhancements for either (given they're making this on a lower budget via Private Division) and MS fronted up some resource to bump up the One X version? Or it was a condition of the Game Pass deal?
Both are speculation, but also more likely than MS telling Obsidian (and thus a subsidiary of 2K) to nix any PS4 Pro enhancements.
Either way, it's a shame for Pro owners. Hopefully it's incorrect information or it'll get a patch at some point. -

Registered 4 years agoEvery single nice thing ms are doing, cross play and game pass etc is because they are doing shite Vs PS4 now. Remember when they were doing well?? Then ps+ games were miles better and ms announced the original Xbox one. If they magically claw it back they will revert to being wankers.

Registered 6 years agoShe's kind of right in the main. The last time Sony took a major lead with the PS2 they got complacent, made terrible business decisions and had their trousers pulled down (see PS3 versus 360). I can see the same happening again with PS5 versus Xbox One Two, especially with all the positive strides Microsoft has made in the last couple of years. You also have to wonder what is going on behind the scenes at Sony that means so many high ranking executives have left.
Anyway, Outer World looks great and I'm really pleased it's on Game Pass and I can enjoy it in 4K. -

Registered 9 years agoPretty sure xbox wont pull it back again. The consoles now are essentially just PC's and apart from a few fps here and there not much different. Sony have the bigger fanbase and better studios so ms will need to keep offering better services to keep a big market share. -

This game was already set up to be published and distributed by Private division, so nixing it would have likely cost them a bomb, but pulling teh Pro patch stuff to favour the XOX is likely. -

Registered 15 years ago@HairyArse I would guess that the massive changes to centralising everything in the US branch could have some ibuence on the leaving figures. I personally have no faith in the US branch being in charge of all regions. Hopefully I am proved wrong but I remain cynical.
As for Outer Worlds I may just activate PC Game Pass on release to play it. If it reaches GOG later then it can have a sale if it is decent.
Edit - or the PS4 physical if not too bad.

They embraced console-console cross play before Sony recently, but they had their moment of refusing cross-play back on the X360 (though they let some of it go through) when Sony were allowing PC PS3. A few PS2 titles could play with PC.
They also embraced cross play before Sony...
Both companies have differing interests when they're in 1st and 2nd place, respectively, because they have different needs. -

I do. I still think that reading is a bit cynical. I don't really see why MS would care that much - the One X is still the more capable machine, so the game would still most likely perform a bit better there anyway. I don't really see what they gain from it, other than people accusing them of shady tactics online. Just seems a bit pointless.

And I'll fully admit I know next to nothing about this stuff, but wouldn't PD have oversight on stuff like that, given they funded and are publishing the game? -

Registered 12 years agoDidn’t Sony have a rule saying everything had to be Pro-enhanced?
Given Obsidian’s reputation for bugs and the likelihood that any sequels will likely be exclusive I’ll probably give it a miss. -

Yes. I believe it has to be at the minimum the same as the ps4 because there are plenty of games that run on the pro with next to no enhancement. Return to Arkham says hello.

I'm sure PD would waver that support for a little bit of dosh.
Maybe there's nothing in it and Obsidian have just decided that they won't support the largest install base with their new title/IP with 4k support. Be a bit weird tho. -
