Crap dubs

I love crap dubbing. Please share your favourite examples.

Here's mine, Yu-Gi-Oh Singapore edition, which is bizarrely dubbed in English but not using the (good) American version: It's so shit.

Two that I remember being particularly bad:

    Mr Vampire (1985)
Good-fun Hong Kong comedy-horror film with hopping vampires and sticky rice, but the English dub is terrible. The English subtitles on the same DVD were a much more accurate translation, though, so turning on both the dub and the subs meant you could directly compare just how woeful the English dub was at capturing the sense of what was being said.

    District 13 (2004)
French film, but for reasons best known to themselves whoever did the English dub chose to use dubbing "artists" with strong regional UK accents, lending the film a sort of surreal incongruity when French people open their mouths and talk like Geordies (etc.).

And an honourable mention to the original English dub for Akira...
It was bloody awful at capturing the sense of the script, and played a huge part in the film seeming incomprehensible. Whole sections of dialog were basically skipped out, untranslated, with the dub's script preferring to have the characters simply yell each other's names repeatedly instead. "Kaneda!" "Tetsuo!" etc.

The later English dub is much more faithful, and helps the film make a lot more sense ... but is flatter and more boring if you're used to the original "bad" dub. There's a certain so-bad-it's-good charm to that first dub. Which is why, despite owning the film on Blu-ray with the "good" dub, I was forced to also track down the Australian DVD - AFAIK the only release that offered the choice of both dubs :)

The dub for Riki-Oh is fucking hilarious and half-makes the film.

Another special mention for Death Note and it's "I'll take a potato chip" scene.

God I wish I could find evidence but the best one I had the pleasure of viewing was Total Recall edited for tv. Absolutely quality stuff but the highlight was from the scene late on in the film when they try and labotomise Quaid....again.
They replace the line "The guys a fucking asshole" to "The guys a filthy Animal" and I remember it sounding so fucking shit. Sorry I meant ducking kit.

@elstoof The 2nd dub is basically the standard dub for Akira now. The Blu-ray, for example, only offers the more recent dub. The Australian release seems to be the only one that has the choice of both English dubs on the same disc.

Like I said, the newer dub is more "professional" and better at conveying the sense of what's going on, but I found I kinda missed the Saturday-morning-cartoon naffness of the original dub. It's the way I first saw the film (repeatedly!) so it'll always seem "right" to me, in a way :)

Amazon just delivered the collectors edition blu ray this morning, which apparently has both dubs on it. I have a soft spot for the original dub, a bit like the FF7 translation, because it leaves a lot to the imagination. Also Kaneda being voiced by Dogtanian tickles me

Having only seen the Japanese version of Akira I'd be interested to see the dubs for the first time.

Listen to them, even. Though you could have the English subs on if you were deaf but they might be shit too. Braille subs it is.

    I don't what I'm saying anymore.

The sequel had mostly the same dubbing artists, but the main characters voices were reversed! Absolutely bizarre
