Celeste is a bad example as it was pointed out to me that it had copious accessibility options that youíre not punished for using.

To encourage people to give games a try I really tried to push the rules this year to be ďexperimentation friendlyĒ. You could buy Celeste and would easily know within two hours whether you were good enough or not. That way it neednít even ever make it to the list. If that two became three or more in certain cases then as long as people arenít taking the piss itíll be fine.

Sure you might end up havflkng bought a game you canít finish, but then the purpose here was never really about saving money. So yeah: Iíve yet to see an example where the rules have properly fallen down yet. :)

Hey i like games that are challenging mentally like ItB or BattleTech.

Stuff that has wonky combat and just requires be to bash the right button to jump at exactly the right time, meh.

@THFourteen If you're talking about the BOTW boss, then he's easy. I killed him and I'm shite at games. Just get kitted up and it is simples.

Doom however I couldn't even reach the Satellite dish.

I think I'm out! Wife just gave me Super Mario Bros which would put me at 6 games. I didn't mention it at all or ask for it. I haven't opened it. I need to throw myself at the mercy of the baying mob. Argh!

    @rice_sandwich

Were any of your five games previously accounted for in the 2018 thread? If so, you can take a pass and have a free slot.

I think surprise presents should be given a bye. Therefore it does not fill a slot initially but will automatically take a spot once one becomes available. (You also cannot play it until the slot comes available).

Buying yourself and not installing sounds like purposely avoiding the rules.

I intend to add every game I buy. Parking games a soon as I buy them is the reason I have a backlog.

I'm not on board with this "git gud or it stays on the list' rule at all. There are plenty of games that I'm happy I've got enough out of to have warranted the purchase, where I've given up after multiple attempts at a late game boss or section. If that type of game has to stay on the list, I'm afraid I might have to be out. /strop

secondly to act as a reminder that you should avoid challenging games if you canít get good. ;-)
I think this is the bit that I object to. I like challenging games, I play games to be challenged. But I'm also mature enough to know when I'm beaten, and can walk away and be happy with it. I don't want to feel I have to avoid hard games because I'll have to complete them.

    @Phattso

Change mine. Put DBFZ down once. It's the DOA6 open beta this weekend. Still keeping it on my list till I get a top 8, but for fucks sake, I'm not finding time for my other two :(

@monkman76 the person in question is quite early in the game I think. Thatís what Iím referring to. Iíve been keen to stress that ďfinishingĒ a game doesnít need to be literal. The example you give would be fine in my eyes. Being fucked up bt the first boss in dark souls? Not so much.

What about the second boss in Bloodborne?

I need to go back and kick Father Gascoigneís arse at some point. Scared to return to it now though as I do not want it to consume a slot for the entire year. (Although it is a backlog game...)

I didnít find Dark Souls particularly hard as for the most part I could hide behind a shield and run away to heal. (Spider lady was the only point I went more nimble).

Parrying and counter attacking are not my strong points. So Bloodborne is much harder for me. (Even though most people seem to find it easier).

Just brought Hollow Knight. I won't start it for a while yet, but its there waiting to be downloaded on my switch (will probably download it overnight tonight). So up to three

    1.) Into the breach
    2.) Horizon
    3.) Hollow Knight.
    4.)
    5.)

Mainly playing Horizon, Into the breach i pick up now and again. Also slowly getting through Smash and Watchdogs is my podcast catch up game, just hoovering up collectibles.

Ok, I'll consider myself still in given that it was an unsolicited gift. I might HAVE to try Super Mario Bros as the wife has requested to watch me play it. Not ideal but I guess it won't kill me. I'll put it on the backburner once I have performed my husbandly 1337 Mario Bros skills to acknowledge the kind gift.

I'll keep a slot clear in future given that there are a multitude of forthcoming Nintendo releases this year that I could concievably receive as a gift. I think is fair and reasonable.

    On my side:

I have on my shelf (several bought this year already as traded in a console and needed to use credit) but am not counting them until installed. (I traded in Xbox 1 and Wii U.)

    Horizon Zero Dawn
    Shenmue 1&2
    Mass Effect Andromeda
    Dishonoured 2

    My 5 is:
    1) Shadow of War
    2) Far Cry 5 (bought last year, but counting it)
    3) Final Fantasy 15 (Also last year and continuing)
    4) Okami on Switch
    5) Forgot about Astrobot

Games playing but I am exempting from list:
RDR2 I am not counting as already abanonded last year but feel I should try again. If I hit 2 hours it takes a slot.
    Persona 5 - Replay
Dragon Quest 11 - Post game content

    Finished and opening a slot:
    Octopath
    Crash Bandicoot trilogy

I blame this thread but for some bizarre reason I had a desire to play NSMBU this evening.

Guess that means I am now:
    N1: RDR2
    N2: Minit
    B3: NSMBU (See credits)

The way the high street is, there is no way I am keeping gift card credit. I am more than happy for the mob to flay me if I install one before I open up a slot.

I am likely to be shafted early in the year simply because, due to being an anal idiot, I am gradually working through my backlog of ps4 games by release year (still on 2013/14!). If I buy any game released recently then that takes up a slot permanently, as it will be immediately back logged until 2027 when I am likely to get to it. Must...resist....sales.
